    They are finally here!

    Zoe Madison born 12-31-08 at 5:06 a.m. via c-section, 4lbs. 9oz., 17 1/2" long
    Emma Payton (Payton) born 12-31-08 at 5:08 a.m. via c-section, 4lbs., 10oz., 19" long

    Our Birth Story:

Well, we were scheduled to have a c-section on Jan. 2, though the doctor said if I started contracting bad, I could go ahead and go in on New Year's day in the morning and he could go ahead and get me in for the c-section then. So that was to be our plan--to go in the morning of Jan. 1 and tell them I was having bad contractions (which I was always having anyway) so that we could have the girls on New Years Day.

Well our girls had different plans! At 2:00 in the morning on New Year's Eve (Wednesday), my water broke! At first I thought I'd peed on myself in my sleep, so I jumped up and rushed to the bathroom, sat on the toilet, peed, wiped and then started to stand up when, "Gush!" Well, I thought I was peeing again so I sat back down, peed, wiped, and started to stand back up from the toilet again, when, "Gush!" This time, when I wiped there was pink on the toilet paper--and on the floor! Oh, my goodness, I thought, "My water actually broke!!"

So I had to put a hand towel between my legs so that I could get to the bedroom to wake up DH. I told him, "Honey, my water broke. Get up." He said, "Oh, okay." and promptly turned over on his side. Then I said, "HONEY, MY WATER BROKE--GET UP!!!" And he said, "WHAT?!?!?!" And then we were in a frenzy to get dressed and get to the hospital.

We got to L&D and the nurses kept asking me if I was SURE that my water broke, and I told them, "Look, I know I've been in here a lot with false labor contractions, but this is it. I have NO DOUBT!" So they pushed on my belly and lo' and behold, a big gush of fluid came out! And they said, "Oh, wow, I guess your water did break!" And I'm thinking, "Well, DUH! that's what I've been trying to tell you people!

From that point on, it was a flurry of activity getting me ready for the c-section. Well, we are in the OR and the anesthesiologist tries to give me a spinal, but it would not take, so they had to put me under, which I HATED, because I really wanted DH in the OR and I wanted to see my babies the moment they came out of my belly. But the important thing was that they were safe, healthy and screaming with gusto when the doc pulled each girl out. Absolutely no NICU time whatsoever!!! Aside from a small touch of jaundice, which did not require intervention of any kind, the girls were (and are) perfectly healthy!! They weighed over 2 lbs. less than what we thought they would weigh (4lbs. 9oz. vs. 6lbs. 9oz. and 4lbs. 10 oz. vs. 6lbs. 12oz. that the sonogram showed at our last prenatal visit). But they are so healthy and got to go home with us on Jan. 5th (Monday).

Thanks everyone for your support and encouragement through this pregnancy. I am so in love with these two precious little angels, I just have to pinch myself to make sure I'm not just dreaming!

Well, on to the "first year" board!

Hope these pictures post okay. Let me know if you are unable to view them! (Had a little trouble posting them.) The first is of both girls, the second (yellow outfit) is Zoe, and the third is of Payton (pink outfit).

Try just clicking on the underlined "Zoe & Payton". Let me know if that doesn't work, and I will try something different. Anyone have any better suggestions? Help!

Thank you! :) This was actually the hospital crib for one of the girls. We just put them in one to take a picture--plus they seemed to be comforted when put together in a "crib".

Your time will come before you know it! Just remember to enjoy the time you are experiencing along the way--as tough and uncomfortable as it might be sometimes! How far along are you?
