I just got home Sunday night – 7/01/07. I had the babies last Tues. 6/26/07 - 35 weeks and 3 days.
    Gwen Margaret - 3lbs 15ozs, 17.5" @ 12:36p and Charles "Charlie" Henry - 5lbs 1oz, 17.5" at 12:37p.
On Fri. 6/22 the specialist and my OB decided to try to let me make it to 38 weeks and pushed my c-section date to 7/12 (38 weeks) since there was no distress to the babies and I had my growth, doppler and NST that day. My OB kept my 6/28 c-section date at the hospital just in case since that was her day to be at the hospital.
I also had NSTs on Tuesdays. So on Tues. 6/26 @ 9am I had my NST and Gwen's heart rate was good but it wasn't fluctuating so they thought she was asleep. They sent me to have a biophysical and gave her 30 min. to move, kick and practice breathing. Her fluid and heart was still good but she didn't move at that time, so they decided I need to deliver the babies that day to see what the problem was. At 10:15a they paged the specialist and my OB and then told me I needed to go to labor and delivery to get prepped. At Noon I got the spinal and around 12:30p the babies were born!

I got to stay in the hospital longer because they thought they had nicked the bladder during the section (they hadn't) but as a precaution wanted the catheter in for 5-7 days so the bladder wouldn't stretch at all and could repair itself if needed.

The babies are still in the intermediate care nursery - I can't believe they are 9 days old! They are there for feeding and growing. Gwen takes a bottle down fast and cries for more, she thinks she is bigger than she really is. She has been in an open bed and hasn't had any apnea and holds her temp. well. Charlie they have tried feeding from a bottle but he still has a little apnea so they want to use the tube until he gets it under control, he is still in an isolette and will probably be in an open bed soon because he's been maintaining his temp. He had taken a step back since they got him to an open bed first but put him back to an isolette since his bilirubin count got high and he needed to be under the lights. Gwen was also under the light for a couple of days before they moved her to a bed.

They want me to bring her car seat today to see if she does ok because she is still under 5 lbs. So she may come home this weekend. Charlie may come home next week. I'm really happy at how well they are doing.

It’s been nice to ease into becoming parents and I feel like I've had a chance to recover from the c-section. It's great that the babies are on 3 hour schedules and we go and feed them at feeding times and try to learn everything possible from outr NICU nurses. I also feel like by the time they come home they have been thoroughly checked through before they release them to our care.

At 27 weeks I went to the hospital for a 4 hour observation with pre-term contractions. I was put on modified bedrest at home and my Dr. had me stop working.
At 32 weeks after a routine NST my contractions were 2 minutes apart, I stayed for 2 nights in the hospital and was put on procardia and sent home.
At 34 weeks the procardia ended and the contractions didn’t come back for me other than an occasional contraction – 2 times in an hour for me.

Born at 35 weeks 3 days after Gwen failed the biophysical profile.

Lisa, congratulations!! Thanks for sharing your birth story. I am glad you are feeling well and getting a chance to also take care of yourself. Good luck with the car seat test (Kayla failed her's so we had to bring her home in a car bed)! Please keep us updated on how everyone is doing, can't wait to hear when everyone is home together!
