Im going to be having a C Section. and being giving most twins are early and we think mine will be. they will be wisked away to Nicu. How much bonding time do u get in the hospital when there born do u even get to hold them after they get you out of the surgry room?

I had a c-section and my husband and the nurse held the babies on my arms before they were taken to the NICU. Then, I went to a recovery area for maybe 20 minutes? Once I was out of recovery, the nurses wheeled me into the NICU to see the babies before taking me to my room. I was able to really hold them for the first time then. My babies stayed in the NICU, so after that I went to my room and wasnt able to get up to go to the NICU until the next morning, but my husband went down throughout the night. It was much different than my other deliveries!

It will depend on how early your babies are - mine were 32+2 and I just saw them briefly as they delivered (just held up over the screen) - they were then stablised by the NICU team and then whisked away. I got a glace at them as they were going out the door. I ended up not seeing them again for 18 hours - not easy so hopefully they won't come to early!

My boys were born at 33 1/2 weeks. They held them up briefly over the drape when they took them out, but took them into a different room right away to check things out. They wheeled them into me in the recovery room so I could see them. I got to hold them the next day. They were in the Level II nursery for 10 days.

I agree, it depends on how early they are and what is happening with them at that time. Even with Trevor being born so early I was able to hold him for a minute after my c-section, which was very nice. Even with my oldest DD, she was full term ( well a week late), but broke her collar bone coming out and she was whisked away, so I was not able to hold her until after she was checked out, so you just never know.

If they are healthy enough, they should let you hold them before being taken away.

I think it will depend on many things, like pp said. I have had two very different birth experiences between my DD1 and the twins. I can say that I am no less bonded to my twinkies for having a c/s and them being whisked away to NICU where they lived for 3 wks. In fact, the both of them are more cuddly and clingy than Trin ever was!
Try not to let it worry you! :hug99:

my girls were born at just about 38 weeks via c-section.
they brought both over to me after they were checked out in the operating room (for a photo op!)
they finished the apgar(?) tests on them & they were both doing good so luckily they had no NICU time & got to come to my room (even our small one who was 4lbs 11oz) :)

My girls were born at 38 weeks 1 day. I delivered baby A vaginally and only got to see her for a minute or so after she was cleaned-up and checked. She was taken from the room after I saw her and we were all braceleted as DH calls it. I needed a c-section for baby B due to cord prolapse. I got to hold her for a minute before they took her and stitched me up. Both girls were in the recovery room when I was rolled in and I got to hold them there. They were with me the rest of the stay.

It really depends. My c/s birth was pretty disappointing to me. The boys were out and whisked away- I didn't get to see them at all until they were hours old when they finally wheeled me into the NICU on the way to my room. (well, DH came into the recovery room and showed me pics on the digital camera.) Even then, I could only look at them and touch them in the incubators since they were connected to so many tubes. I think I finally got to hold Joel when he was a day old, and Bryan a day later. They were still in the NICU when I was discharged so I never had them with me. :( Needless to say, if/when we have another, I'm hoping and praying I can VBAC!!!

Mine did not go to NICU, but they were in my room before I got out of the surgery room! I held one right away! I was even overwhelmed!

I had a c-section at exactly 38 weeks. I got to see and touch them right away and we had some pictures taken while they stitched me up. DH went with them to the nursery while they got cleaned up and I went to recovery. I was pretty out of it for the next hour or so. When I was awake they took me back to my room and the babies came in right away. They were ready to go home before I was!

    Good luck!

I maybe held them for a few minutes after they were born then they had to be whisked to the NICU as they were developing some breathing problems. Then I had some problems too and was in recovery for 6 hours. I got to see them later that evening though and held one but the other was in the incubator thingy. It was hard...not like I imagined it would be.

My boys were born at 33wk 1d and the nurses held them up so I could see them once they were cleaned. One of the nurses even brought my "little" one over so I could kiss him. My DH was able to cut the cords and get some photos before they were taken to the NICU where he followed closely behind. They wheeled my bed through the NICU so I could see them before going to recovery (which I thought was very generous of them). Honestly, I was so worried about them, I was just thrilled to be hearing them crying. I didn't care about holding them as much as I cared about them getting the help they needed. (That's not to say others didn't care about their babies safety, I just remember that being my overwhelming concern). If I remember correctly, my arms were still hooked to the bed and my fingers were all tingly from the drugs. I don't think I could have held them if I tried!

Mine were born at 36 weeks on the dot. Each was held over the drape and after the apgars and stuff, DH brought them in while I was getting stitched up for me to see each one for a couple of minutes. AFter I got to recovery, they were brought in and stayed with me with the exception of a couple of trips to the nursery to give me a break. No NICU time.
