Birth Control--did you tolerate it differently after twins?

    Hi Ladies,

I'm curious about what birth control methods are working for you. I didn't go on birth control until I was closed to finished breastfeeding around 8mo., and I still hadn't gotten a cycle back at that point. I went on the nuvaring because I didn't want to have to remember to take a pill every day, and it's supposedly lower estrogen since I was still weaning at the time. Since then I've had night sweats, some dizziness, irritability (possibly not ring-related ;) ) and breakthrough bleeding. Has anyone been on this and had similar symptoms? I just took it out today, because I've never had problems with bc in the past, and I just don't think my body's tolerating it.

Does anyone have recommendations for what's worked well for you post pregnancy? Any advice is greatly appreciated!

    Thanks!

The NuvaRing sometimes causes anxiety/panic attacks. So the symptoms you were having could very well be from that. ;)

I had a Mirena IUD in and I had a lot of trouble with mine. It was poking me funny and I was in too much pain. It also affected my mood a lot, not to mention I bled all month long. BUT a lot of people have had a lot of luck with it and love it. So, you could maybe look into that??

    Ronda,

Thanks for the info! That's really interesting about the anxiety thing, because I totally had what I thought was a panic attack on Sunday (I have no history of panic attacks and have always been pretty even keel, tempermentally). Seems like the ring is not for me, but now I'm nervous that my whole hormone balance has been thrown out of whack  .

I had the Mirena. And absolutly loved it. My periods actually stopped with it. But everyone is differant. It was nice cause you dont have to remember to take anything.

The copper IUD (Pargard) is my method of choice - as effective as tubal ligation, and NO HORMONES! :a_smil09: Periods are heavier, but I'm willing to put up with that.

I went on the pill for three cycles after the boys were born but I just couldn't get into a rhythm. I kept bleeding when I was supposed to, etc. It was the same kind of pill I had success with for years before I had the babies. I finally just gave up on it.

Same here. I was on the pill before TTC and doc put me on a different pill and now I have break thru spotting every single month. This month I had spotting/bleeding two days before my last pill, and no bleeding since. Makes me wonder what's up. Guess I'll be talking to my doc again about this!

I'm having trouble with mine, too! I went back on the same pill before the boys when they were about 5 months old and can't seem to get my cycle to synch up again. It's so frustrating. I've been bleeding for two weeks now! <_<
I wonder if our hormones are still out of whack or something...

holy cow! I got on the pill a low estrogen one and I was having breakthrough bleedin which I NEVER had before I got pregnant and I would start my period before I would finish for the month..I purposely got on it to reduce cramps and to know when I would get my period and it seemed to help with cramps but so much for knowing when I would get it!!! I stopped it and figured I don't need to deal with this breakthrough bleeding! I thought it was just me!

I went on the pill (same one as before) and it took about 6 months before my cycle got to normal. The first few months I had bleeding before I had even finished the pack as well as very very heavy periods. Now it is more normal but that has taken a good 9 months that when I finished the last one I get my period same day or the next day and they are no longer super heavy and only last 4-5 days which is back to normal for me. This is a very light pill so the dr felt it could be a few different reasons but I believe it was my hormones taking time to get back to normal.
From what I have heard it takes the body a year or more to go back to normal after having a baby so I would think after having twins it could take longer?? More hormones floating about??
