How long did it take for you to get the birth certificates for your babies? It just occurred to me we haven't gotten ours yet.

A couple of months. I actually called the hospital to check on it and they tracked down the paperwork. Can't hurt to call. GL!

Ours are filed by the hospital, but a copy isn't mailed you you unless you request it. Info on how to was included in our discharge kit. Cost me $50. :(

Here the paper work is done at the hospital but you have to go to the county courthouse to get the certificate. I think it's $11 iirc.

When we were in California, we had to go pick ours up. I think they were ready in about 4-6 weeks. Here in NM, Dax's arrived in the mail after about 6 weeks.

We had to order ours by a certain date if we wanted an official copy I believe. We've had it for a couple months already.

Wow. Here in NY you fill out the birth cert and ssn paperwork in the hospital, they process everything, and have it mailed to you. We weren't charged anything. To the OP: I guess call the hospital and ask what your state's policy is for this. GL!

We got ours when the girls were about 3 weeks old, I think. It must vary a lot by state.

We were never given Birth Certificates for any of our kids & they were born in different states so this may be the case for you too... Anyway, basically they said if we wanted copies we had to go to the town hall in the town we lived in and request it! Not only that we had to pay!!! granted it wasn't much, but you would think you would get one free one!

We were told to wait 30 days from the birth to mail in or drop off the paperwork with payment. After I mailed the paperwork with the check it took about 2 weeks. Who has time to drop off paperwork with newborn twins. We ordered 5 birth certificates each because it was $5 for the first copy & $3 for each additional copy. If you come back later it is a $20 copy fee.

Now getting the social security numbers was another thing. The hospital told us it would take 6-8 weeks and they submitted the paperwork to the Social Security Administration. Well after 10 weeks I called the hospital and they told me that new software had been implemented a week after Max & Lily were born and it now takes 12-16 weeks. I am thankful we had May babies and not December because that would have really delayed filing our tax return, lol.

This is the impression I was under in the hospital too - granted I was heavily medicated! But we filled out all the paperwork for the SS cards and everything, and were told it would take several weeks. We got the SS cards in a couple weeks, but never the birth certificates. My husband said he thought they said maybe 12 - 16 weeks? I just called and they said I should have gotten a birth letter in the first couple months saying they were ready at the city hall and to go pick them up. I swear I never received that - but then again I wasn't in my right mind those first couple months either...I'll go to the city hall next week. I really thought they were supposed to be mailed to us too.

Our girls were born in October and around tax time DH was concerned b/c we hadn't received birth certificates or SS cards for either baby! So that's what - 6 months?!?! We finally got them but it took a good 7 months or so.

Where I live, I had to wait for the ss card (maybe I didn't have to, but I did?) and then go pick it up. It was annoying to have to go and pick them up.
