Has anyone has a problem with their children's birth certificates because the father is deceased/not available to sign the paternity paper. Or does anyone know anyone that has been through this and can ask them what I should do please.

My twins' father and I were not married and he passed away almost 2 1/2 months ago. Through the end of my prenatal care all the doctors, nurses and social workers were well aware of my situation and just told me to put him on the birth certificate. (So my children could receive his Social Security benefits, aka Survivors).
Yesterday when I went to go pick up the temporary birth certificates from UCLA, they said they could not put his name on the birth certificate because he couldn't sign anything. She gave me a number for Paternity Opportunities who have not referred me to the department of social services- with whom I have been on hold with for 27 minutes and counting...
I did not know there was going to be a problem with this at all- his mother is willing to sign/do whatever to say that he was well aware that these were his babies, etc. Which the clerk at the hospital said is probably all I will need.
But I have a feeling she just wanted me out of there cause she didn't know the answers to my questions.

Please if anyone knows an easier, softer way to go about this much would be appreciated! It is already difficult enough!! AHH!!

    Thanks, in advance.

I am so sorry you are going through this with new babies at home to care for you really dont need the added stress. I have no help for you but to tell you to keep on everyone's tails until someone does something for you and your babies. Maybe make his mother go with you to the office???

Maybe your state's health department website can help you find your answer or a number to call ...we used our state's health department website to help get my DH's name put onto his daughter's birth certificate ...here is a link to CA's..GL and sorry to hear of your loss..
