Starting at 32 weeks (in just 2 weeks for me [IMG] ) I will be having a bio-physical profile done at the hospital every week. Is anyone else having this done? If I'm understanding right, it is a 5 part test with 4 parts done by ultrasound and 1 part non-stress test done in labor and delivery. The test parts are graded on a scale of 10, with at least 8 being my goal every week.
If you have been doing this test, how is it? About how long should I expect to be at the hospital? If I get a low score, do they deliver the babies?
Thanks for any info you have!

I started having them every other day around 32 weeks (I was hospitalized on mag). It's just like having a regular ultrasound, but can be a little long depending on how the babies cooperate. Mine kept getting 6s, so I kept having them done until the scores improved. They weren't showing breathing movements. Although I think that score was 6/8 b/c the NST was scored separately. If they had gotten worse I would have been delivered by emergency c-section. I was on constant monitoring, so that covered the non-stress test part of the BPP. Catherine had alot of decelerations, so that kept them concerned. They put me on oxygen when I was sleeping and would come in and make me change positions. When I finally did deliver (via c-section) she had the cord wrapped twice around her neck, so that explained the decels. So, to answer your question [IMG] I think it will be about an hour and they may re-do it a day or two later if they are not happy with the scores. If the scores are really low they could choose to deliver. HTH [IMG]

My BPP's generally take anywhere from 20-45 mins depending on who is being cooperative and who's not. Of course this week it was Payton who only did 6/8 practice resps. in the allotted time and I was sent upstairs for a NST which took about 30-40 mins or so. If I drink some chocolate milk before I go, or eat something sweet I can usually be in and out with an NST in 20. I swear sometimes the little boogers plot against me just so I'll have to be out longer, as they are sick of bedrest too LOL.

I've been having an u/s every week since 19 weeks and I am also having a BPP without the NST every week as part of my u/s. I didn't even realize the doc was doing it until I saw it on my chart one day! He just looks for the 4 or 5 things each time and I always forget to ask for specifics, but every time he says everything looks great. I assume if it didn't, he'd do a NST as well.

I'm not sure if they deliver them just because of a failed BPP, but I know they typically send you for more monitoring for a few hours and determine what to do from there. Oh and what you said as far as what the BPP actually is, is correct as far as I understand. [IMG]
