My MIL is going to buy my girls bikes with training wheels as an early birthday present. Where did you buy your kids bikes? What should I be looking for when we go bike shopping?

We bought ours from a speciality bike store. They were more expensive then the ones you find at Wal-Mart but the quality is so much better. They will be bikes that they have for a long time, they come with a warranty and they maintence the bikes for free (seat adjustement, broken chains, etc.).

We have bought all our bikes with training wheels from TRU and have been very happy with them, never had a problem with them at all. :good:

My mom bought them their first bikes when they were 4 at a bike store. Now, at going on 7, Marcus is still riding his--finally lost the training wheels in August. Last spring we had to move Jonathan up to the bigger size--he is very tall for his age! So Marcus has gotten almost 3 years out of his already--he will get his next bike this spring, and Jonathan got 2. But we sold Jonathans' to a neighbor and he is going strong on it!

I agree with Angie, that it is worth it to spend the money for the better bike. My friend tried a cheaper bike, and bought 2 for her son, before she gave in and bought one at the bike shop. The more sturdy bike is much easier for her son to ride!

My SIL got the girls' at Wal-mart and they love them! We never could find them there, but she did. We like them just fine.

We have gotten bikes at Target and at Walmart and do not have problems with them. I could not justify spending more, especially when they will outgrow them.

My boys have bikes from walmart... I've noticed the training wheels don't last long... we replace them A LOT. We won't have to on Jackie anymore now though because he is riding his without training wheels.

Someone suggested to me taking the kids to Walmart to get an idea of what size they'll need, then look around for something a little nicer. My kids love bikes, but weren't able to pedal the cheapie bikes at Walmart; it was like the pedals were very stiff.
