Big Girl Beds

Wondering when to switch to big girl beds. My girls are 27 months. We were thinking maybe beginning of summer. Emily (my shorter daughter) has figured out how to climb into her crib. She has been trying to get but she can't quite get herself there yet. Samantha is almost able to climb into her crib. She could probably get out if she really tried.

My ped told us to wait until they are able to climb out or getting close (he has 5 kids so he knows from expreience).

Did you do twin size beds or full. I know my girls are going to be tall (I'm 5'10" and my husband is 6'6") so I would like to buy pretty good mattresses and keep them for a long time. Emily is kind a roller, she faces all different ways throughout the night.

We switched to full size beds at 3 yrs old.

 

We switched when they could climb out of their cribs. They were 28 mos old. We went with toddler beds, just because I had a friend getting rid of her two toddler beds and she gave them to me.

They quit napping as soon as we switched them...that was the downfall.

 

I switched my oldest 1 month shy of her 2nd birthday. She never attempted to climb out her crib, I am pretty sure she never would have! She's just a pretty easy mellow child and a great sleeper. We never had any issues with her getting out of bed or anything.

ETA: she went straight into a twin, didn't see the benefit of a toddler bed.

 

Mine were 2.5 yr old and we went to twin beds. they could both climb into the crib but they did not climb out. We had moved, so I moved the crib mattresses and they slept on those on the floor for a few nights until we got the new mattresses delivered.

 

We moved to the big girl bed at 2.6 years. They were ready and the switch was easy.
When mine started to climb in and out, we left the crib side down (22 months).
