We moved the twins to toddler beds with a rail when they were just two. Now, they are 3.5 and we got them queen-sized beds. We had just the mattresses on the floor while we waited for the beds to be delivered. They were that way for a month. Well, we got the beds today and we have already had a spill. My husband heard a BAM (she is right above us) and he went up there and she was fast alseep on the floor! Didn't even wake up. While they were in the mattresses I found each on the floor a time or two (again, fast asleep each time.) I put their shammed pillows on the floor to break the fall just in case ... what do you guys think ... should I get bedrails or do you think they will "learn" to stay on the bed? I haven't tried placing them right in the middle and that is another of my thoughts ... The beds are close to the floor (they are in the lowest setting and on bunkie boards instead of boxsprings and they have carpet in their rooms. I really prefer not to get rails but wonder if others have had similar experience and how much time it seemed to take for them to cut down on the spills. My husband still falls out of the bed sometimes and sleep walks! Maybe it is genetic ;) ha ha ;)

Ours went straight from cribs to double size beds. That was at 2y4m. We never did bedrails. We did have there beds pushed up against the wall. So, I would put them on the side closest to the wall. At first, I would put there bean bags on the floor next to their beds just in case. BUT...luckily neither one of them has ever fallen out of bed.

I would put up bed rails myself. I am just a worry wort when it comes to falls/bumps. The bed rails are cheap for peace of mind, in my case! Otherwise just put lots of extra padding around and as pp mentioned, push the bed up against the wall. Interesting that you DH still falls out of bed!

we have bed rails. actually, we couldn't fit a bedrail on each side of their beds, so i took apart teh superyard and tied that to the one side of the bed and have a side rail on teh other side. my girls are ALL OVER THE PLACE when they sleep, so we need it!

I would do bed rails. My oldest son broke his collar bone falling off the couch while he was asleep when he was 2, he was napping and I had jumped in the shower for a minute. Our floor was carpeted and the couch was Just a standard size couch. Our pedi said that this kind of accident was more common than you would think and that he just hit wrong.
