I went to the dr this week. I got great news.

I mean baby B still has a little more fluid than baby A but I am not worried about that because they are both measuring a month a head of schedule.

    Baby B is 3 lb

    Baby A is 2 13oz.

The Dr came in and said I dont know how you are going to make it with these babies growing so fast and big. I told him me either.

My husband was so surprise. Because I always tell him I still eat as if I were not pregnant. But my husband is a big man.

The Dr told me that if I start having trouble breathing that he will consider inducing me.

I was kinda shocked. Because I am big and my uterus is up to my heart and stuffing my lungs into my throat. (well it feels like)

But he said with their weigh he can let me go to 37 weeks or 38 weeks. But they will be really big for me to push out.

I know my body and I know that with my daughter how hard it was and I pushed really hard and long.

But he told me he was worried more about me wanting to do this vaginally with the size of the babies and the 68% percentile that they are in he doesnt want it to wear on my body harder than it would if I was in "perfect health"

But I told him I will try to shot for Oct 6 instead of Oct the 27th (which is the 40 weeks)

I told him I always deliver my little one at 40 weeks.

But since this is a UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL he was asking me if I wanted an elective c-section.

I was kinda offended because I would think he would love to do it the less invasive way. But he was like anything could happen to twin B but I am a God Fearing Woman and I believe that twin b will be ok.

He tried to scare me into a c-section. By saying that he will deliver Twin B vaginally whether breech (feet first or not) I told him I was ok with it.

But has anyone had a doctor just want to operate instead of actually doing the work of waiting and caring for the patients interest instead of what they want.

But I am proud of this pregnancy who to say I would of made it this far without a positive outlook and family and husband and forum.

    Thanks

Well, I wouldn't get too worried too soon about the sizes. Ultrasounds are generally not incredibly accurate and are usually off on the large end - they say that babies are going to be bigger than they are. They told me both of mine were near 8 pounds at the end - they were right on Jack, almost 2 pounds over on Anna. Even with singletons, I have probably a half dozen friends who were induced early because they thought their babies were going to be 9 or 10 pounds and they were 6 or 7. So, I would not be really comfortable making decisions to deliver early because of concerns of their size.

With respect to the delivery, it sounds like your doctor is just laying out all the options and pros and cons. Doctors are generally more concerned with the presentation of baby A, and many will deliver vaginally where A is vertex and B is breech.

Fortunately how much mom eats (in excess or minimum) doesn't determine babies weights. :shok:

Those u/s weights are often not accurate. They usually (on the machine) say +/-12 oz. They said our babies were 5 lbs each 4 wks before their actual birthday, however when they came out baby A weighed 5 lb 6 oz and baby b weighed 5 lb 13.

ACOG recommends trying to keep babies in until 39 wks, unless there is a complication(s). A lot of women that carry twins to term have them in the 7 to almost 8 lb range....not saying this to scare you, but just to assure you that there's a lot more room left inside than what it feels like.

As far as Doc's wanting to operate.....I think the Doc just wants to ensure a healthy outcome for you and your babies whether or not that requires an operation or not. Do remember, in the doc's defense that if there is an emergency C section neccessary they have around 17 minutes (in cases of uterine rupture) to perform an entire surgery...being rushed isn't ideal for any dr, and is very scary for the parents too.

 My babies are measuring big and I am sooo uncomfortable right now LOL! I cannot imagine making it to my 38 week induction! That said my stand is that I will try and trust in my doc and if he says we have to go early for this, this and this I will probably go with his decision (after thinking about it of course). I am not a firm believer that the longer you go the better in some cases many many 40 + weekers end up in the NICU too so for me it's not about weeks per se (at least when you get closer to the end like 36+ weeks) but it's about their health, my health and what the doctor thinks would be best for all of us be it an early delivery or god forbid letting me go til my belly pops roflmbo. But again that's only my opinion so feel free to disregard it heehee. ;)

Our hospital doesn't do elective c sections so I can't speak on that. But it sounds like your doc might just be letting you know all your options so that you can make your decision, at least I hope that's what he/she was doing. Trust in yourself and your hubby and your doc and I am sure it will all go fine!!! You can do it momma!!

My girls were born at 28 weeks and weighed 2lbs 10oz and 3lbs 1oz. If it were me, I would do what is best for the babies and not deliver them vaginally just because it is something that I wanted. I just couldn't take that chance, but that is me. Best of luck to you.

I agree with PPs. It sounds like your doctor is just being concerned and trying to make sure that you have all the information and options. I do not get the impression from your post that he's trying to shirk the responsibility of caring for you all - quite the contrary actually. There is nothing at all wrong with him putting the c section option on the table if he thinks the babies may be big and or difficult to get out. He would not want to compromise your health or theirs, but if at the time vaginal seems like a feasible and safe option, then by all means go for it, Mama!!

In terms of vaginal births with big babies who go to or past their due date -- my cousin's story was enough to scare me into not going there if the doctors advise against it. She is the crunchiest person I know -- literally. They are so natural that they even recycle the water from their washing machine to water the backyard and all their soap is organic and natural (not always the best for lathering, btw). Anyway, her baby girl went past 41 weeks, she refused to induce earlier even though Junie was nearly 9 lbs by her due date. She ended up going into labor on her own at 41+ and laboring painfully for nearly 30 hours, refusing a c section. The baby would NOT budge. They finally told her that it was a section or the baby would die so in the end she consented to the emergency c section after putting herself and the baby through over 24 hours of pure hell. Her sister and mother were both LIVID by the time it was all over. Not an experience I would want, personally.

My babes were guesstimated to be 3.5lb each at just shy of 30wks, so they are not 'small' either - but like so many have said, that can go either way - when mine were last seen it said on the screen +/- 8 to 9oz So they could have been 3lb, they could have been 4lb! I go again on Tuesday for my next one.

As for the pushing surgery - my OB is DEFINATELY pushing for a c-section - she admitted she does NOT like to deliver twins vaginally. I am really hoping she is NOT on call when I go into labor and I can avoid a scheduled c-section with her!

My boys measured in the 90th percentile for most of their growth scans, until 33 weeks, when suddenly they were only in the 50th percentile. My doc assures me this is the norm, that the closer you get to your due date, the Twins are unable to keep up with their previous growth curve. She even warned me before the scan that it is expected. So your little ones may slow down their growth.

I do not trust the ultrasounds either! My growth scan at 35 weeks put baby A at 5 lbs 6 oz, and baby B at 5 lbs 2 oz. When they were born three days later, A was 7lbs 3 oz and b was 5 lbs 11 oz!

Do NOT let this OB bully you. Ultrasound weights are ESTIMATES and are notoriously inaccurate. I didn't catch where you live, but in my area Dr.s are very reluctant to "allow" mothers to birth twins vaginally. Yes, they have reasons, but usually not evidence based ones. My hospital has an 80% twin c/s rate. Forget trying to get them to be non-interventionist. It's counter-intuitive. You think with twins, who are potentially small or pre-term, and mothers whose bodies are more strained than singletons, you'd want to avoid introducing stressful interventions. But that's not the case where I am. It's all about "managing" the pregnancy, labor and delivery.

So yes, I've had a doctor want to use operate rather than go through a delivery. And honestly, with all the interventions they would have put me through - induction, mandatory epidural catheter, monitoring, etc. - I'm not sure whether I'd not prefer surgery too. Instead I found an amazing midwife and stayed home.

Have faith in Baby B. And find another doctor (or midwife) if you can.
