I am just curious as to what age you trasitioned over to big beds instead of cots? I know my two are not ready whatsoever but my friend and i were talking about it yesterday so i thought i would ask and see what you guys did? x

We did it just shy of 2 1/2 years. We would have waited, but we were going to the IL's for Christmas, and they would have to stay in beds, so I wanted to have the transition complete by then.

Mine are 2.5 and we are on vacation at the parents house and were "forced" to switch in order to get some sleep!

When we go home in a couple of weeks, we'll put them in toddler beds because that's what I bought at the MOMS sale and they can still use their crib mattresses (which we paid pretty nicely for! Want to use them)

    Cots? Do you mean "cribs"?

We switched directly from the crib (with tent) to twin sized beds (with rails) just shy of their third birthday (24++ months).

We switched our older DD from her crib to a twin bed at 18m because we were having nothing but screaming matches at nap and bed time. She hated the crib. Once she was in the "big girl" bed - no more problems. We used a portable toddler rail and had it against the wall with a low mattress. I did put a gate at her door when she went to bed as the bedrooms were upstairs and I didn't want a half asleep child falling down them! With the twins we'll probably leave them in the cribs as long as possible just to make things easier.

Yeah i we say cot for crib over here!! Everything is described differently!! Thanks for the input guys. I plan on keeping them in their cots untill they start to either get to big for them or figure out how to escape! x

We moved our oldest DD from crib to bed around 2 1/2 because the twins were coming and thought we would be using her crib. Instead we bought 2 new ones and honestly wish we would have left her in the crib until she wanted out of it. New room, new bed and 2 new babies were probably too much for her within a few months!

Mine learned to climb out at 15 months. I installed crib tents rather than trying to transition them so early. A friend of mine just transitioned her boy when he got his "big boy" bedroom for his 3rd birthday and it went so smoothly. After reading all of the horror stories about kids not sleeping and tearing up their rooms if transitioned at 2, I'm inspired to wait.

We are keeping ours in their cribs as long as possible. They will be 2.5 yrs when a new baby arrives so that will not be a good time. We are thinking closer to 3 years to switch them. I guess if they want to stay in the cribs longer they can but we think we will switch to beds and potty train at 3 years old....

I have had mine in toddler beds since about 21 months....I can tell they are running out of room...they hit each other in the night, and roll over and move around constantly...

I have twin beds in my basement, and I really think its high time for them. They slept in twin beds on vaca and had no issues, so I am hoping for the best!

Good topic! My boys just now this week started to climb out of their cribs at naptime. So naps are nonexistent already. But they DO stay in their cribs for bedtime - so far. I hope to keep them in their cribs as long as I can convince them to stay in them. Prolly by Fall I will transition them to a toddler bed as others stated they will be sleepingin a real bed at my inlaws so that might help to try it before hand.

    GOOD LUCK ALL :D

K&M will be 3 next month and still are in their cribs. They love their cribs.

They don't try to climb out. They try to climb in!

Their cribs convert to toddler beds. I need to find the different rail.

Once my guys started escaping the crib before we got to the the staircase...we went to beds with rails. We could swear the theme song to Mission Impossible would start playing the minute we closed the door. They were amazing little escape artists from the time they were 1. Ethan had a loose slat in his crib, that we did not know about UNTIL he starts screaming one night. About 2 minutes after we closed the door and came down stairs, he is screaming like he has been hurt. So we go running up the stairs to find his head has gotten stuck in between the slats. He was getting out of his crib by moving the loose slat over and sliding out behind first. The only problem was that he had a growth spurt and could no longer get his head through his prison escape route. His feet were dangling but could not reach the floor, so I guess you could imagine his frustration upon getting stuck by his head!
He had been getting out an helping Eric get out so they could play together. :8714bumper:
