    Baby Caleb has arrived!

I started with contractions Saturday morning...then they stopped... then my water broke in the afternoon around 2pm. I waited a bit because I wasn't completely sure it was my water (I had just sneezed! LOL.) Then after another gush an hour later I was convinced. My contractions still weren't very regular, so that wasn't looking very hopeful! Thankfully the plow had just gone through our neighborhood... so the drive, while slow, was passable! We got to the hospital and hung out for awhile...contractions were getting stronger, but still spread out and irregular. My midwife checked me and I was only 1.5cm, go figure. So she decided because I was strep-b positive I should get some pitocin to move things forward. She gave me a very low dose....only like 2mcg or whatever the units are. Well, after just half an hour of that the nurse came in and turned it down to 1. My contractions were just a minute apart and feeling like transition contractions. It was crazy. She was convinced that my body had just kicked it up into high gear because she said the amount of pit I got wasn't enough to ram up my contractions like that. (either that or I'm just super sensitive to pit!) After about 2 hours of this kind of labor I asked to be checked because I just wanted the epidural. I was still only 2cm!! I got the epidural thanks to a very nice anesthesiologist and a very calming nurse who got me through those last 6 aweful contractions between the time I opted for the epidural and the time I actually got it into my system!! But my body has this bizarre habit of going into transition around 2cm! Baby was like +1 already, the midwife was totally in awe over my bizarre labor.

And he was born at 1:59am sunday morning.... probably could've been born by 11pm or so, but the midwife went to go take a nap! LOL.

    Now here's the big shocker....

Caleb Hezekiah was 9lbs 15oz!!!!! 21.5 inches long!

HUGE!!!!!! I was expecting around 8.5-9lbs, bigger than my biggest baby... but never did I think he'd be almost 10lbs. So very glad I got the epidural. I did wind up with a slight tear, but not bad at all considering his size. I'm recovering well, and just anticipating 24/7 nursing for the next 3 or 4 weeks given his size! ouch. He was the biggest baby in the nursery...quite a bizarre feeling for me! And those newborn diapers I bought have to go back to the store because he needs size 1 already!!

Now it makes sense to me why I kept gaining a pound a week towards the end of my pregnancy. And why my joints felt as painful to me as they did during my twin pregnancy. My twins combined were only a little more than 10lbs! So really, I was carrying almost the same amount of baby weight! Here I thought I felt so much worse just because of my age being older!! I kept telling dh, "I must be getting old...this pregnancy just hurts so much more than my other singletons....can't imagine being pregnant at like age 40 if this is how I feel at age 30 versus in my 20s!!" I thought it was just my joints being older! LOL

The real kicker is that I was measuring 3 weeks behind for almost the whole second half of the pregnancy...until I 'dropped' and then I was 5 weeks behind. The midwife was floored by his size. I don't know where he crammed himself in there! Poor kid!

Big kids come home tomorrow. I came home today, and I'm feeling pretty good. So far this seems like it'll be my easiest recovery and easiest birth! yay!

    Congratulations Susanna! :)

Blake was 9lbs 7oz and I remember hearing people talk about "that big baby over there" while he was in the nursery. But, compared to the other three (all who were between six and seven pounds) it was so much easier to have a big one! I'm glad everyone is healthy and happy and home! Get some rest!

Wow, that's a big boy :woah:. Kuddos to you for pushing him out. Congrats! Can't wait to see the pictures.

I had to laugh at your age comment. I wouldn't know since I've never been pregnant in my 20s. :)

Congratulations! I'm sure Evan would have been the biggest baby in the nursery if he had ever spent any time there! There was a set of b/g twins in a nearby room who were released at the same time I was I think.
    Enjoy your baby!

Congratualtions! And I LOVE the name :) My singletons were always the biggest babies. We pretty much went right into size 2 diapers and 3-6 month clothes (they were 10.13 and 10.4).

I came on here just to see if you'd had him yet, so happy he's here and that everything went well for you! :) Congratulations on a big, healthy baby boy, love his name!! That is so funny that you were measuring behind and had a huge baby and I was measuring ahead and had a small babe. Take care and enjoy that baby!! Can't wait to see pics, I bet he's a cutie! :)

Congrats! I love birth stories, and yours was great! I love his name too! You might want to consider even size 2 diapers. We skipped right to that with Jubilee who was born at 10lbs 11oz. Lol, because of her legs now she's even in a bigger size than the twins.

Please post some pictures when you get a chance!
