Big Babies?

My b/g twins have been measuring consistently about 1 week ahead, I have been told that they are growing great, totally on par with a singleton baby. Well today at only 30 weeks the babies each measured 3 lbs 9 ounces!!! According to everything I've read they should be about 3 lbs right now. So I already have 7 lbs of baby in here at only 30 weeks! They are measuring at about 31 to 32 weeks! :shok:

How am I gonna make it to 38 weeks at this rate? I am already having a hard time, nothing unusual especially compared to so many of you ladies. Just the typical worries and aches and pains and crying a lot just cuz everything is so hard at this point. I am only 5 ft 1 so I don't think I have the room to carry these 2 to 38 weeks if they are consistently bigger than "normal". The u/s tech said he thought I couldn't go past 36 weeks since I am smaller. I have been wondering that myself!

Anyone else have bigger babies, is short and carried to 38 weeks? I know it sounds bad but I am scared that I will make it to 38 weeks with 2 huge babies! I don't know how much more my body can take already!? (I know ultrasounds can be off, but these 2 have been consistently bigger so even if they aren't 3.5 lbs they probably are close.)

My twins measured really big at 28 weeks, but their growth slowed down as the weeks progressed. Don't let people stress you out about not being able to carry them past a certain time. At 33 weeks, everyone said that I wasn't going to make it past 36 weeks and my OB even moved my c-section up from 38 1/2 weeks to 37 1/2 weeks. Well, I didn't quite make it to my c-section, but I did make it to 37 weeks and 3 days before I went into labor. My boys were born 100% healthy and didn't spend a minute in the NICU. My last ultrasound had estimated both boys to be right about 7 lbs and in the end Baby A was 6 lbs, 3 oz and Baby B was a whopping 7 lbs, 5 oz.

My two were always measuring two weeks ahead and they were big babies. I'm not 5'1" but I do know it's not easy or fun but worth it in the end. :youcandoit:

Hey there! Glad you know how to grow them. Keep in mind that the closer you are to your due date, the less accurate the growth scans are. It is hard to measure a baby, let alone two that are squished in there. The weights may be off up to a pound in either direction! That said, I'm 5'3 and had my scheduled c-section at 38 weeks and my babies were 7lbs, 7oz & 7lbs, 11oz at birth. I do not know what they were at 30 weeks though.. although I probably have it written down somewhere. I remember not wanting to do very much those last few months.

A lot of us did have "big" babies for twins. Mine were 6.2 and 7.13, so 14 pounds of baby by the end. That said, u/s are generally off and generally of on the high end. They thought mine would be close to 8 each, and they were almost 2 pounds off with Anna.

At 28 weeks my boys were measuring 3 lbs each and they were in the 62nd and 63rd percentiles. The doctors were very pleased with their size, and so was I! On average they should be gaining 1/2 lb a week, so by my appt Monday (32 weeks) they should be about 5 lbs each! I am also very petite and short, so I know your fear about how big these little ones will get before they make their debut into the world, but remember that you want to them to big rather than small! They will also lose a little weight after they are born, so take them into consideration as well!

My son, who is 2, was 9.6 at 41.3 weeks when I was finally induced and he got down to 8 lbs after birth. He was a very healthy little boy, and I think my pregnancy with him was god's way of preparing me for twins! (They did an ultrasounds the day before he was born and thought he was only 8.5!)

Hang in there! I know you are uncomfortable, so am I! But, remember how great it is that they are measuring "ahead" in the case they came a little early!

My babies are also measuring big. At 30 weeks,4 days , they were 3-12 and 3-15. Big is good...though I'm not as small as you are, so maybe it's not a fair comparison.

 I know that feeling and that fear! I think you've actually given me encouragement in other posts where I was expressing them! My babies measured at about 3 and 3.5 pounds at 29 weeks. And then at 33 weeks they measured at 5.5 and 5.7 pounds! They didn't tell me how far ahead that is but everyone was surprised. The MFM wanted to re-test me for gestational diabetes (because they also have polyhydramnios aka excess fluid) but my OB is convinced they're just big babies and that this is a good thing. They didn't think I'd make it past 34 weeks because of all the weight and pressure on my uterus/cervix- but here I am at 36, no signs of labor other than I've been dilated at 2cm for 4 weeks now. It is extremely uncomfortable, especially since they're very active...and I am not so happy about the stretch marks...but I just keep thinking that its better for them to be big. Also my friends all tell me about how their babies were much smaller (or bigger) than whatever the estimated measurements were in utero. So we'll see what the real measurements are when they're actually out and in my arms!

Hang in there and be proud of the job you've done so far! If they're big, you must be doing something right! You can make it, and I know you will. Yay for big babies!

My b/b twins have been measuring a week to a week and a half ahead every ultrasound since 14 weeks. Im 25 now. My dr told me thats amazing for twins and hes so happy, but he doesnt expect me to go full term. Im 4 foot 10 (lol)....I just want to make it long enough that they are healthy. I have an ultrasound next week, im hoping they continue to grow fast! My belly has gown so far out front, but my babies still kick all the way up by my breasts and all the way as far down as they can get and i can feel them off in my side...It worries me to not make it full term but my dr feels very confident that even early they will be fine

I feel your pain girl! I am a couple inches taller, but have an uber short torso and my boys are consistently measuring 1 week+ ahead. At my 32 week ultrasound baby b was 4lbs 13 oz and a was 4 lbs 6 oz. My ds was born at 4lbs 15 oz at 35 1/2 weeks, so the thought that the twins are already bigger than him by now is scary! I keep asking how i can make it a couple more weeks as my belly keeps stretching and i cant even sit as it is. Good luck hun and i'm with ya along the way!

Forgot to mention in my post above - I am on the short side of average at 5'3", but am shaped small, and have gained 37 pounds so far - mostly in my belly. My size was the very reason my doctor didn't think I'd make it past 34 weeks. But again - here I am at 36 (almost). Good luck!

    Well...big IS good...

Not trying to scare you, but our Dr's Wife gave birth to twins at 38 weeks (13 years ago). The both weighed right over 8lbs EACH!!!
He said that they were the biggest set of twins he had ever seen...and they were his own...(over 5,000 babies delivered)

Thanks everyone! :grouphug: It's so hard trying to keep their health in mind when you are starting to get so uncomfortable that you want them to come as soon as they can, I try though. I think we have all been there (or will be there) haven't we? I will just have to take it one day at a time when it gets too hard. I am just starting to crumble easier lately emotionally, at least the past 2 days were better that way than the previous 2 were. I cried everytime I got a second alone and then quickly dried my tears and back to the family lol. I am so thankful for all of your words and encouragement! It sure helps! I am very happy and proud that they are growing so well despite the fears associated with that heehee. (Of course MIL still thinks I have GD despite me passing the test cuz they're just too big so this time we didn't tell her their weights...we were conveniently too busy to tell specifics LOL!)
