The classic bibs aren't working anymore. I'm talking about the ones that you just snap or velcro at the back of the neck. The boys are ripping them off, and their shirts are still covered with chicken nugget grease, which I cannot get out.

Can you suggest a god bib that is one year old proof? Thanks.

We don't use them at all. We just soak a lot of clothes. If at home, sometimes we'll remove their shirts. When out, we use disposable bibs when we can distract them and pretend that we aren't putting something on them. As soon as they notice, they rip them off.

I picked up some from Ikea, and they have been GREAT!!!!! They have sleeves on them, they do velcro up in the bac, but it has only been recently that DS has figured out how to get it off and he is 20 months :)

I have a few that go over their heads like a shirt (Ikea and target) they work great & we use them for REALLY messy meals (spaghetti!).

    Good luck!!

Bumkins toddler bibs are good. They do velcro, but they also have short sleeves, so they don't come off. You can wipe them down if they're not too dirty, but if they're really gross, just toss them in the washer and hang to dry. They dry very quickly. I bought mine at Babies R Us, but they're everywhere online. (Make sure you get the toddler ones. The baby Bumkins bibs won't work.)

My very favorite bibs, though, are these:

I love a huge terry cloth bib that catches all spills, and that you can use to wipe the kid's mouth. I also like that they're big enough to cover the lap (the regular size, not the baby size). But, they're expensive, and of course you have to wash them. I have spent a small fortune on these bibs, starting when Nadia was a baby....and until very recently, Kevan was going through a million drool bibs a day, and the baby size of these worked great.

They snap on, but it's such a sturdy snap that it doesn't come off.

    So far I've found that the bibs which are harder to take off are;
Over-the-head bibs-a very determind toddler can get this sort off, but it does take them longer which means you have time to intercept and pull it back down.
Sleeve bibs-although they ususally do up with velcro if you get the kind where the velcro runs all the way down the back (and it's strong velcro) then it won't undo with tugging from the front.
Tie-up bibs-these are pretty much impossible to pull off, the downside is you have to tie it on in the first place (hard if the child is squirming to avoid it) and then untie it afterward (when the bow is extra tight from all the pulling!)

We also have a few bibs similar to these ones. Although the fastening is just a little push through thing on the ones we have it actually clicks in quite tight and needs to be pressed back through, pulling from the front won't undo it. You might need to check them out in the shops though because I have seen ones where the fastening is not so tight that would be easier to pull off.

Yup, we use the over the head ones and the plastic IKEA ones. Also, my sister used to get bandannas, fold em into a triangle and tie them behind her boys necks like a "cowboy tie" in addition to their regular bibs. They couldn't get them untied, and it kept them from getting at the other bib to yoink it off. As they got bigger and needed just the neck of their shirt covered, she just used the bandanna only.

I am a huge fan of the Bumpkin bibs. It is all we have used for the last year or so.

Thanks ladies, I'm going to try to implement some of these ideas. Hopefully, I'll be able to get some new bibs soon until then I might have to bandanna them or just let them eat naked. :)

The rule at my house is that if you eat like a monkey, you have to eat naked  !

Great thread... I need to find some of those over the head ones... where do you buy them? Do they have pockets?

The bumkins ones with sleeves are unfortunately not working out here.

My children have never ever stained their outfits and no they don't eat any more neatly than your kids..lol. I use Durabibs.... they are not cheap but we only own 4 of them and don't need any more. They are made of very stiff vinyl. They have a pocket at the bottom that you can unsnap to lay flat and wipe it clean. That pocket catches everything and the material is so stiff they don't bend it. We tuck the bib in as we push the tray in as far to the babies chests as possible. As long as you roll up long sleeves you will never get dirty clothes. Walmart carries a cheaper version of the bib that is the same design but I do find the vinyl does not withstand the daily wiping as well. So Durabib was like $7 or 8 per bib which we purchased at either Buy Buy Baby or Babies R Us and Walmart brand was like $5. Google it. IMO it is worth the cost to get a Durabib vs Walmart brand.

Just wanted to chime in that I love my Kiddopotomus bibs. They seem like they may be for infants (size-wise) but they're not. They sit high which is great b/c they don't fall below the booster seat tray and they catch everything. Also, they're very easy to clean, you just wipe them off. No stinky bibs that you have to keep washing and then worry about mildew. My girls love them and I never have any problems with them taking them off. I highly recommend them.
