I am 16 weeks this week and seem to be having BH already. My tummy gets tight at times through out the day. It is not painful at all but an obvious change from the softer regular feeling. Is this common with twins or should I be concerned? I have a history of PTL and will be staring progesterone injections next Friday. Thoughts?

BH are pretty common, but I'd also be worried if I had a history of preterm labor. Can you drink some water and rest when you start to feel them?

I had BH contractions starting at 14 weeks.....and I'm still going strong at almost 34 weeks!!! YAY!! They made me nervous at first, but when I would have them I would drink a HUGE glass of water and lay down to make sure I didn't have anymore. It's just time to start taking it easy....that's for sure.

With your history of PTL, I would be sure to mention it to your doctor though. Just to be on the safe side :) Hope the remainder of your pregnancy goes well!

My BH started at 20 weeks and they were very frequent and my cervix started to shorten a tiny bit. I was taken out of work and put on Procardia to help relax my uterine muscle. I was put on modified bed rest with a home monitor system which I had to do twice a day until the end of my pregnancy. Drinking a lot of water AND making sure your bladder is emptied frequently is very important and will help BH....My cervix actually lengthened and I had to get cervadel at 37 weeks, due to my blood pressure, to put me in labor.

Mine started that early too. As long as you don't have a history of PTL and you just inform your doctor at appointments, then you should be fine. I always told my doctor how many/often I was having just so it was in my file and they could check me occassionally for changes in my cervix (which always stayed above 3). Good luck!!

Mine started that early, too. Your uterus is growing at a faster rate than it would with a singleton so you're going to feel it more.

mine started around 14 weeks...tapered off around 21 weeks, and they are back again. HX of PTL would make me nervous.

I went to the Dr on Thursday and they did an ultrasound to check my cervix and it was at 4 YAY!! They did a vaginal swab and found some yeast (although I have had no symptoms at all of a yeast infection and in fact never had one) They said that could cause some of the contractions. They gave me the Diflucan and started my progesterone shot. I have had no contractions since then, although the round ligament pain is increasing especially when changing positions in bed.. Any ideas how to help those?

I think it's pretty normal with twins. But it can also be a way of your body telling you to slow down. They always came stronger when I'd been on my feet too much.
