My SIL is due with her first in July. She plans to BF and I know she looks to me for advice about pregnancy, babies, and breastfeeding since I've had SO much experience. :D I really want to encourage her and be her little BFing cheerleader.

Anyway, since she's getting all of the typical baby stuff from the gazillion people she and her DH know in the community, I thought I would make her a breastfeeding gift basket with stuff like lanolin, milk storage bags, nursing pads, nursing tanks, maybe a breastfeeding book, etc. Any suggestions of what else I could put in there from the top-of-the-line breastfeeding experts here at TS?

    TIA!

One more thing...when I bought my breast pump (Ameda) it came with a nice refrigerator magnet that had the whole chart on how long BM is good for...it is very handy! Maybe try to find one of those...or print it off from the website for her!

That's so cool! I had never heard of a nursing necklace and I've found a couple of sites now that have a free reminder bracelet with it. I'll be ordering those for SIL and myself! Thanks! :)

And the magnet idea is great too. I have a printout from Kellymom hanging on my fridge b/c I didn't realize until the other day that DH had no clue about how long BM was good for. I don't know why I just expected him to know it. :D

I gave my cousin who is pregnant with triplets (she really wants to bf) the ez 2 nurse pillow, bm storage bags, medela storage bottles for her pump, fenegreek, mother's milk tea and a book on bf multiples. I like the idea of adding a nursing necklace and cover up!

how about one of those t-shirts for her that people have posted about here before - there was one that said something like "I make milk, what's your superpower?". Or a onesie for the baby that says something about mommy's milk.

the fridge magnet is a great idea - I have one that I got for free from the little nursing shop where I bought my pump - it's a medela brand magnet. The storage times on there are more conservative than the info on kellymom, but it's a great quick reference on the fridge.

I saw a really cute book at Barnes and Noble a few weeks ago - it was all funny little sayings for the breastfeeding mom - to help you see the humor in it, a good idea for when the going gets tough.

Some nice burp cloths? A friend of mine has some really pretty ones that are monagrammed with the baby's name.

a nice (BPA free) re-usable water bottle.

this is actually a great idea - my little sister is pregnant and I really want to encourage her to BF - I might make up a BFing gift basket for her. great idea!

This is a great idea! What about something to make life easier otherwise.....gift cards to take-out food places, someone to come clean her house/mow the lawn.

You've gotten great suggestions so far. Some things that come to mind are Soothies gel pads, Lily Padz nursing pads, a good nursing bra or top, a nursing stool. If you know she's going to be pumping too a hands free bra is a nice thing to have.

Lots of great ideas! Here are things I'd have liked:

    -lanolin
-gift cards for things like groceries (especially if it can include Peapod) and takeout places - when you nurse, you're hungry all the time, and there's no time to shop and cook!
    -a good BF reference book
-and of course, something really cute, like this onesie!

What a nice idea. I bet you'll come up with something great!
