if your babies are 18 months and older - how much do they weigh??
my girls are small - 17 and 18 pounds fully dressed. - we have had all kinds of tests done (my pedi is not a huge fan of bf - I got the impression she wanted to prove to me that I should ween) everything is fine with the girls they seem to be just small - but VERY smart!!
my question is how big are your bf babies??

at this point, we nurse in the morning, at nap time, and through the night - oh and if any traumas occur (if they get vaccines, or if they fall etc...)

    I was not breast fed....but I weighed 8 lbs and 11 oz at birth.....When I started Kindergarten I weighed a whopping 29 pounds.

I am however BFing my guys and they are 7 months as of yesterday....they weigh 11 1/2 and 12 pounds. They were 4 14 and 4 15 born at 33 weeks and 1 day.

I don't know if I have helped at all. Get a new pedi is my suggestion....or a second opinion at least!

    Good luck.

My kids weighed ~21 lbs as of a few months ago, and are tall but very skinny (like 95th percentile height and only 10th for weight). Honestly, BFing has nothing to do with size, especially this late in the game. If there are any concerns about their growth, weaning would HURT, not help - it would deprive them of an extremely valuable (and yummy!) source of fat, calories, vitamins, etc. Your pedi doesn't know what she's talking about.

My string bean was 20lbs at 1 year and 21lbs, 14oz at 18 months. DH & I are not small. Sounds like they are just petite girls! DD was about one pound heavier than DS (my string bean). HTH. I second the different doctor!

What she said! And for the record, T was 24#10 and Jack was 21#11 at their 1 yr weigh-in: healthy guys who just happened to b'feed. Bf'ing babies come in all sizes!

At just less than 18 months DD weighs just over 18 lb and DS just over 24lb. Both were 6 lb at birth and we are still BFing atleast 3-4 times a day. DD seems very quick and always inquisitve and likes to figure things out, my little girl...DS is just a boy, running around crazy...both have decent appetites depending on what you feed them, each likes different stuff. I think if they are still interested in nursing, let them. BTW, I'm hoping to nurse til they turn two, but DS seems lees and less interested. He would have probably been done if he were an only child nursing, maybe. DD definately is still attached to it. :) Good luck, keep it up, they won't nurse forever!

Also, the only thing we got from our doc at our last visit about still BFing the twins is that we should probably cut the night feeding out (only once usually each) as it actually could cause tooth problems similar to bottle feeding at night? He's new to us but our firends suggested him and otherwise we like him...for what its worth. I'm still not giving up the night feedings though, sometimes its the only way to a peaceful night :)

I've read that that's a myth. (Somewhere on Kellymom...too tired to dig up the article right now...) I think the reason why nighttime nursing is supposedly ok is that there's no chance of milk pooling around the teeth. If the baby/toddler is actively nursing, s/he is swallowing the milk. It's not like the milk keeps coming even when the baby is asleep (as it does with a bottle). Also, the milk comes so far back in the mouth (a proper latch is really deep!) that it doesn't have much/any contact with teeth. I think the article also said something about breastmilk inhibiting growth of bad bacteria/nasty stuff in the mouth...

My son didn't reach 20 lbs until he was 15 months old and he stayed around 23 lbs until around 2 yrs. He will be 3 in sept and he weighs 27 lbs now. I wouldn't worry about it. You just have peanuts! :D

Yeah, I wasn't too concerned with the nighttime nursing, I think he was maybe suggesting that if they nurse ALL night long, EVERY night something like that could happen, but I personally doubt it as well.
