My boys are 25 months and are not really ready for PT but I thought I'd start to get them used to the idea. So when I was at Walmart, I picked up the padded Elmo seat for the toilet. When I let them sit on it, I noticed that the pee guard is really low and if and when they were to pee on the toilet it would go everywhere.

So I guess I'm going to have to buy potty chairs. I've heard from a few people that a lot of times boys have issues with the potty chairs because when they sit down, the guard will hit their penis and it will freak them out or the guard is not high enough.

Do you have a good potty chair that has worked for your boys?

    Thanks

My son is not yet PT'ed but we have been using the Talking Elmo potty chair and when he does decide to pee in it, he has no problem doing so. The pee shield seems to be high enough, I just make sure that he is pointing downward. The only issue with that potty chair is that DS can remove the pee shield if he wants to.

We have the Baby Bjorn Potty Chair. I do not recommend it. We're PTing actively right now, and it leaves red marks on both of my boys' bottoms. I think it's more appropriate for very little (18 months or so) children... it's too small for my boys, and mine are not big. One is in the 40th %ile, the other is in the 5th %ile soaking wet! Good luck - I'll be watching this thread, too.

Darn, I read a lot of good reviews for that one. Guess I'll keep looking.

I vote for the simpliest one you can find but one that will convert to a stool.

We bought 2 of the Talking Elmo potty's and all they did was take up room. We got rid of one and use the other as a stool for reg potty and sink. They used them but not for long and then switched to reg potty. They are yucky to dump,

I had heard great things about the Bjorns, too! However, my kids' were writhing in their seats trying to get comfy, and their bottoms were actually getting toilet-seat-shaped bruises from sitting on the Baby Bjorn seats, so we took a trip to Babies R Us this afternoon. We ended up getting the Summer 3-in-1 Potty Chairsand so far they seem great. It has a padded seat which seems much more comfortable for my boys. Just thought I'd chime in again. Good luck! :)

This one got really good reviews at Walmart & BRU and it's only $13.

I'd rather start off cheap and if they don't work out find something more expensive.

At 2 years old, I started putting them on the potty before bath and we used the elmo ring. When they were closer to being trained, we used the bjorn chairs. I wondered if you sat them back further on the potty ring if that would help any? Both the ring and chairs worked well for us.

I had a ring and it would constantly pinch my sons butt so I went and got the Bjorn high back chair and he did well with that one until he decided that he wanted to use the big potty again :( then I went and bought the bumbo potty ring and let me tell you it would be great for girls but horrible for boys because there is no room for their little penis to even get down and my son kept peeing on the floor :headbang: so then I just got a stool and he sat on the regular potty with nothing! granted he was three when he was finally potty trained but when he was two the bjorn chair worked well. With my twins I will be finding something small and cheap because they pick and choose all the time and I wasted enough money with my older son. The frog potty from walmart mentioned above looks like it would be interesting. Also I had a friend who used the boon potty chair that converts to a stool and she said she loved it but I never used it my self

We actually love the Bjorn potty chairs! And my kids are big too, very tall for their age. The chairs are very comfy for them, the pee guard is high enough for DS without hitting anything, and they are SO easy to clean. Can't say enough good things about them! The Bjorn potty ring also seems to work well, though the kids don't use it as much as the potty chair yet.

We got the IKEA potty seats and I love them! They are all one piece so super easy to clean. They are tall enough that the boys can sit themselves on them. The only time they pee out of them is if they are straining with a #2, but they are learning to push their penis down. They get red marks on their bums but no bruises. I love that they were only $4.99 a piece (and are on sale for $2.99 now I believe) so I was able to get 4. One for the car and one for each bathroom. They even stack neatly inside each other so when I go to my mom's house for a few weeks, we can bring them all.

We have two of these, one for each level of our house. We really liked them since the shield seemed nice & high (although they did still pee over when we were first training). The boys also LOVED to make their potty sing & they're easy to clean. Plus, once they get potty training down & you're sick of hearing the potty sing, there's an OFF switch on the bottom :)! We had bought a cheap Circo brand one (I can't find a link) for outside last summer that was useless b/c the boys peed right over the top of it & now we won't need it this summer since I can let them in the house to pee independently. Now that they've transitioned to the big boy potty only, we have 2 of these rings, which I HATE because they're two pieces & pee gets stuck in between them, or they fall apart when the boys try to put them on the potty. Ugh. So, now I bought two of these. The shields are so-so, but the seats stay together & are easier to clean. My boys are good at tucking now, so a shield isn't all that necessary at this point. In fact, they ONLY use the rings when they are pooping, otherwise they stand to pee now. For in the car, I have this. There isn't a shield, but it's been heaven sent during training & I would just 'tuck' the boys for them until they learned to do it themselves.

I recall posting a similar thread when I first started training the boys. I was so tired of cleaning in front of the potty because they'd spray over & super tired of changing undies/pants for getting peed ON, not peed IN! Ugh. It took a while til the boys consistently tucked & now they've got it mastered. We didn't go to potty rings on the actual potty for a long time because the shield on our little potty was so much better. I tell ya, now that we're done with them, I'm super glad, but I'm also super glad someone recommended that FP potty to us, because it was great!

GOOD LUCK! Training boys isn't fun with the tucking & such, but it's MUCH nicer in public because you can just hoist them up & they pee into the toilet without having to touch it! Much easier!!!

I have twin boys - now 4.5. The froggy potty is great for boys because the front comes up high and not removable. I did (and shouldn't have) bought a potty where the splash gaurd was removable before I bought the froggy. I still have a froggy in the back of the van just in case.

However, one of the best purchases we've made since we had the boys was one of these http://www.homedepot.com/Bath-Toilets-Toilet-Seats/h_d1/N-5yc1vZ1xh7Zaqkr/R-100626729/h_d2/ProductDisplay?langId=-1&storeId=10051&catalogId=10053 . Ours might be a little different, but these were a godsend. The boys love them and they are very independent on them. We have one upstairs and one downstairs. They like feeling secure and I didn't want to have to take a ring on and off.

    Hope this helps.

I use something like this, except ours are white and match the seats. I do help the boys remember to point themselves down, helping when needed. But now they are getting better.

Without looking at it, I'm pretty sure that's the frog one we have. Both A&R have used it successfully for pooping, but only Alice has gone pee in it.

We did not use potty chairs with any of my 4 boys. I just put them on the regular toliet facing backwards. They can hold on for balance and I teach them to point it down.

I was going to say this as well. I guess that this goes to show you that everyone is different :) Good luck in finding something that works well for you!
