We were told to get a cool mist humidifer as they work better then a warm mist or vaporizer. I can tell you I HATE my Vicks Vaporizer.

Im looking for something that I do NOT have to buy filters for. and something that I can actually see the mist... ( I'm the type if I cant see it its not really there kinda person).... I have seen one displayed at walmart in the RX and its got a good mist coming out of it... I think the brand was Relion but I cant be sure this was months ago when i didnt need one...

Any advice would be good..... Looking to keep it on the inexpensive side if possible.

    TIA NIkki

I had a cheap one with a filter that lasted less then a year and just bought this one http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000937DGW/?tag=mytwins02-20
at bed bath and beyond for less then $30. So far I like it and it does workwell enough for their room, which is on the smaller size.

I haven't found a humidifier that I absolutely love. I've bought the cheap $19 models from Wal-Mart and I've bought the $50 models and I can't say that I like the expensive ones any better. The last one I bought was a cheap $19 but you do have to replace the filters and you can't see the mist. If you find one you like, please let me know!

The link from PP wasn't working, so here's another one for the same thing:

I have this one too... and the Crane frog, cow and penguin. I like them a lot. I had an Evenflo cool mist humidifier and it was not cheap nor were the filters. So, I too wanted something without filters. I think these Crane humidifiers are great -- no filters, you can see the mist if you turn it up high enough (just make sure you follow the directions so that you don't overdo it since it will wet your walls), it's easy to fill up with water, it's fairly easy to keep clean, and the "child friendly designs" are "adorable". I know Target sells them for a little over $30, but I got mine at Bed Bath and Beyond also and from Amazon (once I decided I liked them). HTH.

Ok here it is... I polled each and every RX that I was in today and they all said this is the "best" one on the market..... I said ok and bought it and so far its working great.. It was 28.00 at Walmart and no filters to change. The RX told me theres a carbon thing in there that needs to be changed every year but other then that he said he has it and every member of his family does too and he even has one set up in he rx..LOL

I'm no help here. We also have the Vicks one and personally my biggest issue with it always has been that it's too loud. I've seen some really cute ones at Target (Helly Kitty, frogs etc) but I have no idea how well they work.

I hate our humidifier because it goes through the filters so quickly (it's a Hamilton Beach model, and it's otherwise very effective, but I'm spending an arm and a leg on these filters!). So GOOD CHOICE on looking for one that doesn't need them!! (that's all I wanted to say, no suggestions)

I hated my vicks vaporizer too so I went to bed, bath, and beyond and bought them one that looks like a frog. (they have different animals too) Its really cute and works great......I definately recommend it.

Ok I am in the market for two new humidifiers too. My boys managed in a split second to reach up on their dresser and pull the cord to their humifier and its smashed on the floor. Thanks GOODNESS they were not hurt but the tank was destroyed. It was a nice ultrasonic humidifier but it did go through filters too fast.

So this CRANE looks cute and I like the no filters. But what is the difference btw the regular ones and the ultrasonic ones? I like the cute animal one for the boys room and the hello kitty for dd's room. THey are both pretty small rooms so the size will work great.

    TIA B)

I'm afraid I'm not help as to which one is the best, I didn't have much choice when I bought mine as they are just not common here. But I got a cool one over a vaporizor. It has a fan, the ultrosonic ones are very quiet, the ones with fans are not, but for me it doubles as a white noise machine as well!

I do have a tip for those with wick filter humidifiers. The instructions on mine called for changing the filters each season, and I live in a climate where we run it from December to May. But my filters last me two years (running it almost nightly from December to May) and here is the secret. For each gallon of water add one table spoon of white vinager. It both kills the bacteria that might want to grow in it and keeps mineral build up off the filter.

I'm bumping up this really old thread, since I went looking for it. I just placed an order for the Crane's Hello Kitty humidifier from Amazon (I get free shipping).

Thanks for your recommendations, everyone. It's that time of year again!

Thanks for posting that Melissa! I just bought new filters for mine b/c they keep getting moldy (yuck!!!). I run it nightly in Elizabeth's room for white noise as well as dryness. Thanks :)

We have the Crane 'frog' humidifier from Target. It is very quiet and easy to use. I recommend it.

I have the Crane Elephant, but stopped using it recently because it's such a pain to clean. How are ladies cleaning it? Seems like it has all these nooks and cranies that I can't reach. :unknw:
