best bottles for breastfed babies...?

which bottles have you had the most luck with when it comes to breastfeeding and babies (baby) not having nipple confusion? bottle feeding will be a (very) occasional thing for us (hopefully! )

 

I always did playtex drop ins.. I think with a naturlatch (?) nipple. My daughter got a little milk in a bottle in the hospital and really liked bottles, although I exclusively breastfed her, it was somewhat of a struggle. Both my sons did not like bottles, but I did not really see the need to introduce them to bottles early. My sons never had nipple confusion. They prefered their milk au natural.

 

Never had trouble with nipple confusion. However, my ODD only wanted one particular bottle type and wouldn't take any others until she was almost a year. So a lot will just depend on what the baby likes.

Nipple confusion isn't likely to be a problem if you use the slowest flow the baby will accept.

 

I have know quite a few moms who have had luck with Dr. Brown's bottles/nipples. The nipples are really soft and pliable, not rigid. But like others have said, it really depends on your baby. My son went from breast to bottle and back easily with a Dr. Browns bottle... no problems. But I still haven't found any bottle that my daughter will take. Though, I was working part time by the time my son was 3 months old so he was getting a bottle regularly once a week. I was not working after my daughter was born and did not consistently give her a bottle, so I am sure that has something to do with it.

 

We used Born Free bottles with all 3 on the ocassions when a bottle's been necessary. No problems with nipple confusion at all.

 

I used Medula medium flow nipples and my LOs never had any nipple confusion. I think there are so many variables.. size shape of mom, rate of bm flow, latch ability of baby, personality of baby.

there are some things your can do to mimic breast feeding such as 'change sides' half way through, make the baby suck a few times before allowing milk to flow from the nipple (to imitate let down) and always position the nipple of the bottle all the way in the baby's mouth rather than allowing him to suck on the tip. Medela has a new bottle out now that the nipple is shaped like a breast and the baby doesn't get any milk unless they suck - forget what the name is (maybe Calma?) but it is on the Medela website

 

Yep. It's Calma. I haven't tried it but am intrigued.

 

I used Nuk in the past and never had nipple confusion but now with the twins, since to hospital gave them pacifiers during the car seat challenge, they haven't latched at all! The lactation consultant said they are confused and now will only eat out of a first essentials bottle that is similar to the pacifiers that they used.
