I guess I am moving on to the First year forum now!

Benny and Emma made their arrival on May 3rd after a very short induction.
At 9 am they started the pitocin after checking positions. Baby A (emma) was head down and so we started the Pitocin. I got up to 4 cms dilated, and my OB decided to break my water. We had the epidural placed first, and then the water for Baby a was ruptured. About 5 minutes later, she started having decelerations in her heart rate, so the doc decided to place an internal Fetal heart monitor. When she went to place it, she felt a fleshy body part, which we assumed was a cheek. She explained to me the risks of birthing a facial presentation, but she said she wanted to do an ultrasound to check their positions just to be sure. We soon found out, that in the short period of time between the start of the induction and the rupturing of the membranes, Emma had flipped and was now BREECH!!!

Because of the decels and her presentation, we decided on a c section much to my hearts dismay. I was so scared, but my midwife kept me in my head. she just kept talking to me and explaining that this was for a reason, and the babies were fine and they would be in my arms in no time. The c-section was started at about 3 pm, and at 3:13, Emma was born weighing 6 lbs even, and at 3:14, her little brother Benny was born weighing 5 lbs 8 oz.

I was so happy to have them born, even though I was hellbent on a natural delivery. The first night was great, both babies did awesome. The next day, I noticed Benny was a little on the lethargic side, and wasn't as apt to eat as his sister. Emma was a pro latcher, like shed been training every moment of her fetal life for it. Her little mouth SPRANG open the second she was placed at the breast. Benny fought it. We soon learned that his blood sugar was on the low side (2.4) and they began to tube feed him. They alternated between tube feedings and syringe feedings. They checked his blood sugar just before every feed for the first 2 days. It was hard to have his tiny baby body poked with that big needle so many times, but we knew it was for the best. The lactation consultant and my midwife came up with a plan to teach him to latch to the breast, while still getting the much needed formula to keep his blood sugars up. They threaed a tiny feeding tube through the top of a nipple on a bottle and then running the feeding tube beside my nipple. It worked like a charm, and we only needed to supplement him like this for a couple days. He figured out how to latch, and by May 6, he was maintaining his weight. He dropped from 5lbs 8 oz to 5lbs 2 oz, and then maintained that weight. The pediatrician said we could go once we stopped the supplements for a 24 hour period, and only if he didn't lose more weight. So we stopped them, and 24 hours later, he was still 5lbs 2 oz!! THe greatest news ever. They did a carseat challenge with him, where they take him to the nicu in his carseat and hook him up to a cardiac monitor and an o2 sat monitor, and he statys in the carseat for 90 minutes. they watch for apnea or any decrease in heartrate. He passed with flying colors! We came home today around 4 pm. its now 11 pm and Im just about to go to bed. We couldnt be happier, and we can't wait to watch these babies grow!!
