My thoughts would be to get the benadryl cream. That would go right to the infected area and just work on that.

I think Jamie's idea is great. My pedi told me I could give my girls a 1/2 teaspoon of bendaryl every four hrs at 6 months. They have never had any problems with it, I only give it to them when they have a bad runny nose (usually from teething, or cold).

The only problem with creams in infants, is you can not be sure of what dose they are getting. Usually, children under 1 aren't usually advised to be given topical treatments. Benedryl is one of those meds that easily absorbs into the body through the skin.

Benedryl is very safe to be taken orally. However, the sleepy side effect that most adults/older children experience with this drug are sometimes the opposite with infants and small children. Benedryl can make them irritable and a bit hyper.

Call the pedi and ask about the cream. Our pedi advised a drop the half size of a dime every 6 hours was alright.

I am a Benedryl fan when it comes to any rash (from teething or a food reaction) as well as schnoggy noses. When the boys were 2 months old, my doctor told me to use 1/2 tsp, and I still use that much now (at 8 months). My older kids all had it as well, as my ped. told me it is non addictive, so it's OK to use.

Hannah had an allergic reaction and the pediatrician said 1/2 tsp every four to six hours. We only had to use it a few times before the rash cleared up. I didn't notice any side effects.
