Now that winter is here we are wearing more jeans and pants. Unfortunately, both our DD and DS have very small waists and their pants keep falling down! I haven't started looking for belts at the stores, yet...but was wondering if anyone already knew where to get them and what your experiences have been with them. Any suggestions? Any recommendations for websites, too? TIA!

I don't know where to get them but my friend made one for me and I am going to ask her how.

Purchase pants with the elastic tabs inside the waistband, so that you can adjust them to fit.

FWIW, when they start potty training, belts won't help. Stick with elastic waistbands!!!

I was going to mention the same thing. Gap and Old Navy sell pants with adjustable waists.

I get them at the Gap. They have the woven ones that you can put to any length.

Target also has adjustable waist pants! I wouldn't be able to put mine in pants if it weren't for the adjustable waist.

Thanks for your input. Usually we do buy the kind with adjustable/elastic waistbands, but Old Navy had a sale and they had some lined jeans on sale so I bought them. Unfortunately, these are not adjustable. Good point (regarding the potty training)...I've been thinking about that, too. I did a Google search and found this website that sells belts for toddlers and it's supposed to be easy for them to do themselves. However, I don't have any experience with these and they are pretty expensive.

Adjustable waists are key. I don't buy pants if they don't have them but so many do now. One belt that looks good for toddlers though is the Myself belts. They use velcro so you can get them on and off quickly. They also have them in small sizes. They are at myselfbelts.com.

Elliot needs a belt always, and I have one that was hand-me-down, so I don't know where it's from. It's kind of a braided stretchy thing - no holes, but you can make it exactly how tight you need it. Because it's stretchy it's kind of similar to having pants with an elastic waistband - he doesn't need to undo the belt to use the toilet - he can pull his pants down belt and all.

Of course I discovered how many pairs of pants he has that have no belt loops, so I put the belt on and then fold the waist down over the belt and that works fairly well.

    Good luck!

The Children's Place has belts for toddlers. I bought my son a 24 month size and at age 5 he's still wearing it -- he's pretty skinny! Or, better yet, just take the waist in. You don't need to be fancy, just fold the waistband at the sideseam (as if you are making a pleat) and sew it down. It's usually not noticeable and only takes about five minutes.

Tcp sells adjustable waist pants aswell. Also Check criagslist for toddler belts that someone might be selling.

What i do on pants that dont ahve adjustable waist if roll the waist band over once. As long as this does not make the pants to short it works and the pants fit.

I just bought my 2 1/2 yr old son a belt thru Amazon from myselfbelts.com. I got him the xtra small - he's 29 lbs and it fits well. It's very cute with firetrucks and ladders and a velcro fastener.

This might sound crazy but I was a super thin kid and I know my mother used to sew velcro in the tops of my pants and the bottom of my shirts. She would just velcro me together!

I just cuff their waistband down (helps 'shorten' them up too - we are peanuts).

I also prefer the adjustable waistband pants whenever I can find them (Gymboree has a good selection/offering).

That's great to hear that Children's Place carries them. I will check them out. The Myselfbelts.com website is the same one that I was referring to in my 2nd post. Glad to hear that it has worked for some people. If Children's Place doesn't work out, I think I'll order some from the Myselfbelts website. The comment about using velcro to fasten the tops and pants together is so cute! Very practical! In the past, my mom has sewn a piece of elastic in the back of their pants to keep it snug. It works well, but I just thought I'd give belts a try. :D
