The other day, Jay was changing Peyton and noticed that his belly button is huge!! I know its been big, but now it seems like it may have gotten bigger....aslo when we pushed on it, it almost felt like it was full of fluid... although it doesn't seem to cause him any discomfort....I don't know if this is something that I should be worried about... I know everyones belly looks different but it is just much larger than Austin's.

Is this something anyone else has dealt with?? I'm wondering if I should call the pediatrician,, but I kinda worry about sounding like a looney, especially after 2 stupid visits ( My ped is very understanding... )

    Thanks for any help...

PS about my ped being so understanding, funny story...my mom used him for all us kids....when my brother was little, she made him measure his legs at every visit because she thought one leg was longer than the other.... lol.... I laughed at that until I became a mother and realized how worried you can get about them.....

    Shannon,

I don't know anything about belly buttons, so no real advice other than don't worry about sounding looney. Give your ped's office a call. They hear from other new mothers on just about everything so most questions you'd have wouldn't be weird or anything. Pediatricians expect to get calls; they even expect to get silly ones. Yours about the belly button doesn't sound silly to me, though, it sounds like a pretty decent thing to wonder about.

    Shannon,
He may have an umbilical hernia that has gotten larger... so it is now more noticable. It shoul dbe ok, but you may want to get him checked out.

I agree with PP it sounds like an umbilical hernia to me. I would call the dr. the can sometimes heal on their own.

here is a link to the Mayo Clinic website with some more information on it! if you have any specific questions please feel free to PM me!

Yup, definitely sounds like an umbilical hernia, both my girls have one.

Call your pedi, just to let them know, that's what they're there for!

My daughter had that. Hers seemed to get a bit bigger too before it eventually went away. Definitely call the Ped. but if it's an umbilical hernia it's nothing to worry about!

Mine both had umbilical hernias, and hopefully that's what yours is too. They both ultimately resolved on their own.

Clarissa's was HUGE! Looked like she had a ping pong ball in her bellybutton (well, not quite, but almost). Months later, it just disappeared on it's own.

I'm sure your pedi will give you advice or check it out, but I know one thing with a hernia is that you can push it back in - we could push on them and they would sort of "pop" in, then when you let go, they'd pop out again.

    Hope it's nothing more serious.
