This is pretty late since our twins are 4-1/2 months old now. Here is our birth story: On Sunday, December 9th, I started having contractions in the very early morning hours, called the doc and she said to come on in. I had an uneventful C-section, delivering 2 beautiful boys (pics to follow later) 6 pounds 13 oz and 6 pounds 7 oz. About 8 hours after surgery, my husband noticed that the urine going into the cathater was really red and full of blood. I had an awful headache, too. He called the nurse in to show her, and she called my OB back in. My blood pressure had spiked very high very suddenly. The doc said "Hmmm, that's not right, we're going to send you back to labor and delivery for monitoring". She left and about 30 seconds after that, my left leg started jerking and I couldn't stop it. My husband went to get the doctor again, but before she could get back in the room, I went into a seizure that lasted several minutes. My hubby hit the call button and the room filled up with nurses and doctors. Turns out I had developed eclampsia with HELLP Syndrome after the delivery, which is unusual. The doctor put us in an ambulance for a 3 hour ride to a hospital that specializes in high risk pregnancies and deliveries. we were there for almost a week before we could come home and get our boys. That was the worst part, I only got to hold one of them for just a few minutes before I was rushed off. It was so sad. And, to top it all off, I developed Bell's Palsy, too. Thank goodness everything is fine and back to normal now and the boys are wonderful and gorgeous! well, that is is condensed version of our birth story. I had never even heard of HELLP Syndrome! MY pregnancy was very uneventful and easy, I didn't even have morning sickness or anything. No bed rest, no problems at all. But, everything is great now and we are all very happy with our beautiful boys!

UGH! What a time you have been through. I also had HELLP but was fortunate that it was picked up before the babies were born and before I got into the danger zone. It was the reason I found myself on an ambulance from the community hospital to a high-risk one and they delivered them that day at 33 weeks. I had heard of it before having had preeclampsia before but didn't know much - only that it was BAD and that women (and babies) can die from it.

Thanks so much for posting your birth story and welcome to the FY forum!

I'm so sorry you had to deal with those complications! I had HELLP right before delivering but, thankfully, it was caught quickly and we were able to do a c-section before it got worse. I didn't even know you could get it post-birth! I'm so glad to hear you all are doing fine and that the boys are healthy. Congratulations on the birth of your twins!

I as well had HELLP right before delivery at 39 plus weeks after second induction- SUCKS!!!! I was on magnesium sulfate for 24 hours and I was a total zombie after delivery- my husband had to watch me hold the babies to make sure I wouldn't drop them (yipes!).

Anyway, it was tough, but your body bounces back from all that stuff (surprisingly)- sorry you had a tough time!
