My boys are 15 months. One of them is completely dangerous. Not just pulling things down and running away, but climbing up ridiculously high furniture. They collaborate together to push a kitchen chair to the dinning table and then he goes up and up and up just so he can reach the light switch or the door lock. He stands on his toes right at the edge of the table.

What should i do. It's too dangerous when im not right next to him (changing the other one, etc) and i can't stand next to him for 30 minutes at his whim, can i?

    Do i say "NO"
Do i explain why its dangerous

neither of which he seems to understand

Do i encourage because it's a good way for him to learn
Do i remove the hazard (that would mean moving furniture to the middle of the room away from light switches and locks)

at the moment im pushing all the chairs to the middle of the room and interlocking the legs of the chairs, so its harder for them to untangle.

Yesterday he climbed onto a shelf and pulled himself onto the window by holding the bars on the window. This would be the equivalent of me pulling myself up a 2 metre ledge using steel bars. he is CRAZY

    any advice????

Can you gate off the kitchen when you're not in there? Also, I think they are getting close enough to the age where you can set limits and use time outs for breaking the rules. Probably around 18 months. For now I would reinforce by removing them from the situation, giving a firm no and telling him that it's very dangerous.

I agree with Melissa. If you can gate off the area, that would probably help. At that age your best bet is to re-direct their attention. I know how hard that can be especially if you have stubborn kids. We didn't do time outs until they were almost 2.

All I can do is wish ya luck! Lily climbs the 3foot gate that is in the kitchen doorway, stands on top and LEANS over and gets on the counter. I say no, get down from there about 200 times an evening. i've even tried to put her in a timeout, but at this age, she isn't getting it yet. A swat on the bootie deters her for about 30 seconds.

Best of luck...we'll get thru it!
