Ever since daylight savings time back in March my girls have been going to bed at 7 and waking up around 6:30 or 7. For the last week they've still been going to bed at 7 but they're waking up extra early - usually around 5:30 or 5:45. One of them fusses pretty good and the other one talks quietly until 6:45 or 7 when I go in to get them. I absolutely refuse to start my day at 5:30!

Do you think maybe they don't need 12 hours of sleep anymore and I should push back their bedtime a little bit to see if they will sleep longer in the morning? Maybe 7:30 p.m. or even 8 p.m.?

They usually take one nap in the afternoon from 11:30 to 1:30 or 2. Every once in a while they seem extra tired and will nap in the morning and afternoon, but that's pretty rare. And when that does happen it seems like we have a hard time getting them to bed at 7.

When do your kids go to bed and get up?

    TIA :)

My 6 year old still sleeps about 12 hours a night. My two are the same age as your girls and they go to bed at 7:30 and wake anywhere, since it's summer I can let them sleep, from 7-8:30. I will not get them before 7:00. We had a few mornings where Trevor would start talking at 5:45 and I would not get him, and he did eventually fall back asleep.

I personally do think they need around 12 hours of sleep at night. I have usually found if mine go to bed later, they don't sleep later and even sometimes get up earlier. It's almost as if it throws their whole sleep pattern off. The same thing was true for my oldest.

ETA-Mine take one nap in the afternoon for about 2-3 hours.

The "Healthy Sleep Habits" answer would be that if they're waking too early, you should actually put them to bed earlier.

Mine to go to bed at 6:45/7 and wake up around 6-6:30 -- that's been their pattern since about 10 months. (They were waking up earlier for a couple of months around 8-10 months.)

Amy still goes through phases of waking at 5:30-6. I do go in a little earlier if she wakes up early, just because I'm up anyway. But it never seems to last more than a week. (I can't put them to bed earlier -- I don't get home from work till 5:45 and there just isn't time -- so I don't know if that would work.)

All of my kiddos go to bed at 8Pm and wake up at 7am. (ish) The twins and DD taken naps that last 1.5-3 hours during the day...

I would push back their bedtime about 30 minutes, just to see what happens. Good Luck!

mine - just shy of 18 months - go to bed at 8 p.m. and get up at 7:30 a.m. - which works out great for us.

my girls go to bed at 7p, up at 6:15ish with one nap about 2 hours long.

My girls will occasionally wake up a little earlier, like this morning, but it's not been a consistent early wake up, so I've chosen to not worry about it. Both are trying to cut their fangs right now, so I figure I'll cut them some slack!

During the week our girls are in bed by 7:30 and we get them up at 6:30 so everyone can get to work and day care. On the weekend, they are usually in bed about the same time (sometimes earlier) and typically get up between 7 and 7:30. The weekend bedtime varies a little depending on how much they slept during the day. They usually have one nap (11:30 to 2pm) during the week at day care.

My babies go to bed very readily at 6:30pm and get up at 6:00 am. They take a 2-3 hour nap.

Mine go to bed at 7:00pm and wake at 7:00am. Lately they have been partying in their cribs until about 8:00, but wake time is usually the same. Occasionally one will wake early for a few days, but I don't go in until 7:00 either. Have you tried room darkening curtains? I noticed you said it started with DST. Maybe their room gets too bright early?

We are just now very slowly trying to eliminate two naps a day. At 19 months they have regularly been waking between 6-6:45 ( I don't go in until 7:15) nap at 10am-11:30, next nap 3-4:30pm bed at 7:30pm. Right now about once a week they will skip the afternoon nap but they have to be busy, for instance, today we were swimming til dinner and they went to bed a 7pm and will sleep til about 6-6:30am. We are going on vaca next week and we would be able to do so much more if they skip the second nap...I fiqure I will just go with the flow
