Bedtime too late?

As long as we get our 3-month old boys to sleep and in their cribs between 9:00pm and 10:00pm, they will sleep straight through to 3:00am-4:00am, when they wake up for their feeding.

I've been reading a lot of posts where some are going to sleep at 7:00pm and sleeping until 6:00am! I thought if I put them down earlier, they'd wake up earlier, but it seems that a lot of twins that go to bed early sleep longer?! Can it be?

Do you think 9:00pm it too late? Should I shoot for an earlier bedtime?

For those with more experience, please share...I might have to adjust their bedtime!

that's how mine are, they hardly ever sleep any more than 8 hours at night. Once in a great while they will. So we shoot for a 8Pm-9pm bedtime, then they usually on the dot will wake at 5am. I feed them a bottle, then they go back to sleep for another four hours.

At 3mnths I moved to an earlier bedtime, I moved it from 8 to 7pm. Seemed to work really well, the babies were overtired by 8, so 7 was a good time to transition to. Mine did start sleeping longer once I did that, however since have gone back to 5-6hr stretch rather than the original 8-9 hour stretch I was getting.

You can start by putting them down 15 minutes earlier at a time. See if that works for you. Our boys did sleep from 7-7. Cody doesn't need as much sleep as they did so he does 8-6.

The "early to bed, late to rise" is totally true. I know it seems odd but it does work. We started putting ours down at 8:00pm around 4 months, since that is when they have the best ability to self-soothe. Developing a schedule throughout the day, most especially in the area of naps, also helps a great deal. Apart from the occasional teething episode, my twins have consistently slept through from about 8:00pm-6:30am. They are just over 9 months now.

My girls are 3 months adjusted age. They just started STTN consistently. They go to bed at 8 p.m. and sleep until 6 a.m.

I put my girls down at between 6:45 and 7:30'ish ~ they are normally asleep before 8 pm.
We kept getting earlier & earlier because they were getting super tired & cranky. We just kept adjusting things till it seemed to work for them & so that we wouldnt get too overtired.
I dont think that the time they go to bed affects what time they wake up in the morning ~ but i do know that the more sleep for them the better everyone is!!

We didnt shoot for an earlier bedtime until about 3-4 months. We gradually moved it from about 10pm to 8 pm. Then as they got older and dropped the third nap it became 5:30pm for a long time until they matured and could stay up a bit longer.

For us, the 6:00 pm bedtime that THEY instituted themselves at 14 weeks (adjusted, 19 actual) is the absolute GOLDEN TIME... They sleep, and have since then, from 6:00 pm until 6:45 am.

They are now 8 mos, or 7 adjusted, and I got to thinking.. "Hmm.. maybe if I put them down at 6:30 or 6:45p they will sleep later.. Pushing my luck! I did it for a week and it totally backfired on me! Nightmare zone. They woke up at 5 am instead! It was bad news and TOTALLY due to me not reading their cues and going by THEIR bedtime!!!

I think it's kind of a thing w/ my babies where it wasn't up to me!! They just started PASSING OUT no matter what we were doing at 6:00 pm. I joke that they turn into pumpkins at that time!! It's great. I would have jumped out the window if my kids stayed up until 10 pm!! Oh my gosh!! I am in bed by 8 and I LOVE IT! It gives me "ME TIME" and I get a TON of sleep!!

I absolutely, whole-heartedly think that earlier to bed is later to rise but more importantly than that.. and this is the part that is often looked past--- it's when THEY ARE READY FOR BED that you need to get them into bed and ONLY THEN will they sleep later.. SEe what I'm saying? So.. my kids gave me major signals and I listened and hit paydirt! If you watch your babies closely, you will hone in on this "time" and if you get it right and stick with it- you're in.

    Good luck!

Around that age, mine took a later nap. We didn't swaddle, dim the lights, & put them in their crib until 9ish as well.

They moved their bedtime up earlier & earlier on their own, more when they started dropping their 4th nap. My guess would be around 4-5 mos. I had family harrass me for putting my kids to bed at 6pm, but like pp, they turned into pumpkins otherwise :)!

We've tried later bedtimes & earlier bedtimes in attempts to effect wake up times, but it never worked. We're back to square one...letting them decide bedtime. If they get good naps (non daycare days), they'll play after their bottle & sometimes we have to just put them in their cribs between 6:30-7pm (they usually fall right to sleep). If they had bad naps or aren't feeling well, they're usually in bed by 6:30pm

Follow the cues from your little ones. Mine didn't start sleeping 6-6 without a feed until around 6-7 mos, but I was ok getting up for just 1 feed by around 4 mos.

Now if only I'D go to bed early instead of staying up til 10-11pm ;)!
