Hello all! I am new to the site and I have already found it very helpful!

I am almost 25 weeks prego with mono/di boys. What are the different reasons some people have to be placed on bed rest? I know some of them: high blood pressure, contractions, etc. but I do not know all of them. My next OB visit will be next week and I will be almost 26 weeks at that time. He (the OB) mentioned seeing me a month after my next visit and then every two weeks after that...is that normal? Heck, by that time I will almost be 30 weeks already.

I had to go to the hospital last week (I felt like an idiot) becasue I though I was leaking amniotic fluid and I flipped out! They checked me and said my cervix was high, closed and not softened at all. I was relieved to know that it wasn't amniotic fluid, even though I still felt like an idiot. The nurses were really nice and put me at ease though!

Any comments or suggestions on things I should ask my OB would be helpful at this time. This is my first pregnancy and I have no idea what I should be expecting. My OB has been pretty lax at all of my visits, but I tend to get worried about everything!

    Thanks ladies!

Welcome to TS :sign0016: and congratulations on your twins! You are right...people can be placed on bedrest for a wide variety of reasons. I was on modified, then strict/hospital for about a month before I delivered. I started contracting around the 29 week mark and then developed preeclampsia later on. Just my experience...

Don't feel badly going to the hospital! Honestly, that would have scared me, too and it's always better to get checked out, you know?

Take care and enjoy your pregnancy!!

Thank you for your responses! Now another stupis question...how can you tell a Braxton Hicks from a real contraction? I thiink I have felt Braxton Hicks, but I am unsure.

BH contrax are not painful. BUT painless contrax are not all BH contrax. . . painless contrax can dilate you. BH contrax do not dilate you. The only way to check on this is for your doc to check for dilation.

I was put on hospital bedrest at 24 weeks due to PTL, funneling, positive fFN and dilated 3cm.

You should never feel stupid for going in if you are concerned. It is so much better to be safe than sorry!!

I could never differentiate real contractions vs BH....

I was put on hospital bedrest at 22wks because of a very weak and barely-there cervix and PTL. There are several things that can land you on bedrest, but a lot of people never go on bedrest too. Good luck and welcome!

I was put on 9 weeks of home bed rest for shortening cervix/funneling/contractions/rapid heart rate/pre-e. I delivered at 37 weeks!

Contractions of any type can cause your cervix to change, so don't ever hesitate to call your doc, or go in to get checked out. That is what they are there for! :hug99:

I was put on bed rest due to PTL and contractions exceeding 8-10 per hour. I was put on a terbutaline pump and told to stay in bed. Also baby B was not growing as well as Baby A. There was over 1 lb difference in their weights as best as they could tell.
I was put on bed rest at 29 weeks and delivered at 36 weeks 5 days. I had PTL from about 24 weeks on.
