Is bedrest expected with twins or are there people who have no bedrest...

several people have commented that I will be on bedrest because I am having twins. I went full term with my DS and did not have any bedrest and had a very successful pregnancy/delivery.

    Just curious...

I was told I had to go on modified bedrest at 24 weeks! To me thats mind boggling - I went 39 1/2 weeks with my son.

I'm 32 weeks and 3 days and I have yet to be put on bedrest. That said, I went out of work at 26 weeks because I was just physically exhausted, having bad dizzy spells, and couldn't drive anymore - I'm short (5'1) and my belly is huge so couldn't reach the pedels and deal with the steering wheel on my belly. Since I've been home I just rest a lot more on the couch (I just don't feel like doing anything and I have been contracting more so I just take it real easy on "bad" days) but I still go shopping occasionally (short trips) and go to dinner - that sort of thing. Surprisingly I went into preterm labor with my son at 30 weeks and was on bedrest with him. I'm completely amazed I'm doing as good as I am. What I've done to avoid bedrest is just to take it very easy (self imposed "couch" rest when I'm contracting more often), keep hydrated, and not push myself. I think it just depends on each person and each pregnancy. Good luck to you! Hopefully you'll make it all the way without any bedrest.

    Not sure. :unknw:

I also went full term (well she was actually a week late) with my oldest DD and had no PTL and a very easy pregnancy with her. The Drs all said that would help with my twin pregnancy for sure. Well I was put on bedrest and had to have an emergency cerclage at 24 weeks, so you just never know what will happen with a twin pregnancy.

I don't think bedrest is a given with twin pregnancy. I'm 34+ weeks and I'm not on bedrest. I'm actually still working - only part-time - I'm a CPA so I spend most of my day at my desk. My doc doesn't have a "policy" that all twin pregnancies go on bedrest at a specific time, he takes each one on a case-by-case basis. So far my pregnancy has been pretty uneventful, so he doesn't think bedrest is necessary. As long as I'm still feeling good, the babies are growing well, and I'm not having any complications or PTL then he doesn't think bedrest is necessary. My advice would be to ask your OB what their policy/opinion is.

It depends on your DR. New research is suggesting that putting women on bedrest sometime around the start of the 3rd trimester is reducing preterm deliveries. Some are suggesting by up to 40% I believe. So, I assume it will depend a lot on your DR, what they think of this, and what the 2 of you decide. I will be doing mine at 28 wks. He wants me to stay on bed rest tell 34 wks, however, I may only go tell 32 wks (there are family things coming up and I may just not be able to). I hope that helps a little.
