    Hi All!

I just wanted to provide a place for us all to introduce ourselves, since a lot of you are on bedrest. Tell us a little about yourself and why you are currently horizontal?!

I am Kate, and although I am not currently on bedrest, I was on bedrest for three months during my twin pregnancy, with two prolonged stints in the hospital. I had a short cervix and in irritable uterus! Now I am just short and irritable...well, on certain day! ;)

Hi. I've been looking for someplace like this.
My name is Stephanie (aka: NINI). I have been on complete bedrest at home since 20 weeks. For some reason my uterus wants to contract early and a lot this pregnancy. This is my 5th pg. I have two little boys who will be 7 & 5 when the twins come. I'm gonna be the lonely female in the family. Good thing I like sports.
It would be great to meet other moms that can't go anywhere.

Hey there, this is a good idea! I'm having identical girls and they will be my first children. I've been on bedrest since 18weeks after my cervix thinned out to 1.3 cm and I needed a cerclage. It's been a rollercoaster, now after my appoitment today they found markers for Downs, stage 1 TTTS and a 2 vessel cord with babyA. Plus my cervix thinned out again. It's really hard being out of work and depending on others to help me. It's helped to get a routine and I've got things to keep me busy. I'm getting used to bedrest now but sometimes it can be lonely so I'm glad thread is here.

    Hello,

I have been on bedrest since 24 weeks (now, I'm at 31.5 weeks) due to contractions that were fast and furious. So far, bedrest has helped. My dr has scheduled my c-sect. (baby A is breech) for May 10. I am happy to have a goal to reach for. My bedrest isn't too restrictive--no lifting, cleaning, cooking, only out of the house for dr's appts. However, there are certainly days that seem to never end. I am so glad that there's a new section for us to meet and talk.

Hi, I am 32 weeks with boy/girl twins. These are our first babies. I've been on modified bedrest since 30 weeks and will be until the end. I had a ton of contractions but a negative FFN test. I was commuting into NYC for work and it totally wiped me out. Now that I am home all day, the contractions have pretty much stopped.

I'm at 29w1d and have been on hospital bedrest since 26 weeks. I have a short cervix that started to dilate and I'm having contractions. I'm on the terb pump to control the contractions and keep my cervix stable. We're having fraternal girls and my new goal is to get to 32 weeks. Bedrest is really hard so this forum is a great idea.

I am 28 weeks today with identical twin girls (my peri told me yesterday she didn't think I would make it this far!). I have been on modified bedrest since 21 weeks for the possible beginnings of TTTS, but we dodged that bullet. The doctors were going to give me more "freedom" until this past week when it looks like I may preeclampsia. So far just high BP readings, but normal blood work and no protein in my urine.

Hello Ladies!! My name is Christie. I'm pg with two boys. :itwins_boys: These are our first children. I'm very new to this community but not new to bed rest. I am 33wks 1 day pg and I have been on modified bed rest since I was 24wks pg. They noticed during an internal u/s that I had some funneling going on and my cervix had thinned out to 2cm. I was also having lots of contractions. So no more working outside the home, housework, cooking etc. In the beginning it was really rough for me and I hardly ever left the bed because I didn't want the babies to come too early, nor did I want to end up in the hospital as my doctor said that could happen. My cervix has stayed the same and I don't have contractions nearly as much as I used to. I go for weekly check ups so the doctor can make sure my cervix is staying closed. The closer I get to my due date the more relaxed I get and I'm on my feet a little more now. I only leave the house for doctors appointments and once or twice a month we go to my Mom's house just to hang out for the day. She makes me up a little bed on the couch and no one lets me do anything but it's a nice change. As soon as I hit 36wks my doctor said that I can be off of the bed rest.

So to keep myself from going totally crazy I found things to keep myself busy. At first I just watched a lot of tv and felt sorry for myself. Then I learned how to crochet and made 2 baby blankets. My lap top isn't working so I would get on the computer but only for short amounts of time. I've read lots of books and magazines. I have even started my own home based business while being on bed rest, so that's been keeping me busy and feeling like I'm accomplishing something, these last few weeks :D

This is a wonderful idea! I am just over 32 weeks and was put on modified bed rest at 31 weeks. Although I've not experienced any complications thus far, my doctor said she tends to take this route with all twin pregnancies (just to be on the safe side). Still able to do my work from the couch, fix myself lunch, etc. but not really supposed to leave the house except for apts. I am going stir crazy already, so it will be nice to communicate with some other ladies dealing with the same! Watching a lot of A Baby Story and Brining Home Baby on TLC...how about you?

    Hi all!

I've been on bedrest since 23 weeks for a shortening cervix. I've made it to almost 32 weeks and am so thrilled to have come this far! I had a good apt with my Peri on Monday who said that since my cervix seems stable now, unless something drastic happens to send me into labor that he thinks I can hold out till 35 or 36 weeks, so that was great to hear!
My body is definitley starting to rebel against me for laying down for so long, but I'm just thankful that I can do this for my babies!

  11. Hello all! I was on bedrest from 31 weeks 1 week in hospital and I hope to be here for advice. I was on procardia and terbutlaine and gave birth via c-section at 36 weeks, Its hard but doable!!! Hang in there girls!!!

 Hi, I am Bonny (boni) I have been on bedrest since week 26, I am now almost 35 weeks. I did not heed the doc advice for full bedrest and went into preterm labour at 29 weeks, they manageged to stop it and I was in hospital for a week. Then complete rest until week 34 and only now after doc saw me am I alowed to move and get up again. To me it feels like I am under House Arrest and I am not all that happy.
Fortunatly dh and I have our own business so I get to work from home to keep me busy. My c-section has been scheduled for the 5th May, Yeah!!!!!. and like a previous post, it feels good to have an end in sight.

Thank you for this site because we can vent and be unserstood

Hi ladies!! I just wanted to cheer you all on. Bedrest is so hard, but you can do it!

I was put on bedrest at 16 weeks after my cervix length was found to be non-existant and I had an emergency cerclage. At 22 weeks it shortened again with contractions, and I was put on hospital bedrest at 24 weeks. Stayed stable for 4 long weeks in the hospital, so they sent me home on bedrest. Baby A PROM'd 2 days shy of 31 weeks and I delivered 48 hours later at exactly 31 weeks. I had steroid shots at 24 weeks and rescue dose 48 hours prior to delivery.

My girls spent 5 and 6 weeks in the NICU, but they are doing very, very well!

    Hi Ladies!
This is a great idea! I was put on "house arrest" at 28 weeks. I'm 3 weeks in now - and man can it get lonely!!! At least it's not strict - I can move around and do stuff around the house. We're having two girls and they both just turned to be head down - so we're pretty excited.

It's nice to e-meet all of you!!!

Hi - Just introducing myself on this post. We are expecting twin girls - 33 2/7 today. I'm on nifidipene and just waiting to see what happens. It was pretty wild - I was in for an NST and I was contracting almost every minute, but wasn't feeling hardly any of them. They put me over to L&D, made up the baby bracelets and everything, and my cervix stayed at 2cm dilated for the 4 days while I was in. So, now I'm at home. Learning how to type on my side and all that! I'm hoping I can keep these kids baking for another few weeks!

    Good luck to all!

Hi everyone. I am on bedrest now. I started having contractions late Saturday night. I figured it was lack of fluids since I had my 3 Hr Glucose that morning and couldn't have anything. So, I went to bed and pushed fluids. I figured, why get an IV if I could do it myself. Besides, they weren't hurting, just extra BH.
By Sunday afternoon though, they weren't slowing down. Every time I put my hand on my tummy, it was rock hard. Then, I started to hurt. My lower abdomen started to cramp, sharp and steady, not like round ligament pain. Changing positions didn't change the pain. Then, my elephant started to hurt, like I fell on a boys bike. I started to feel pressure down there too.
Now, I've never been PG before, but I figured that with the pain and pressure, I should do something. So, I made the call, and headed for L/D. The UA was fine, not dilating, not dehydrated, and the twins were strong . Bedrest for me until I see my OB next week for scheduled sonogram.
Everthing was peaches until now. And the pain is still there. Can someone tell me if that pain is anything normal?
So, now I learn to type sideways. ;)
I guess it is a good thing to learn new skills.

Hey ladies...well things have changed quite a bit for us. Went in for a routine visit yesterday at 33 weeks and found out Baby B is VERY low, I was 1 cm dialated and my cervix is thinning. I was trasported via ambulance to a hospital about an hour away since our hospital won't touch babies earlier than 34 weeks. After todays exam, and having a positive Ffn test today, they've decided to keep me here at least until 34 weeks before transporting me back to my "normal" hospital. I am stressed here, over an hour away from everything comfortable, friends, family and actually 2 hours away from our home UGH. I do have hospital access to the web, so I've found my new home. Looking forward to keeping in touch with all you ladies :)

    Update on me:

I have been on the nifidipene since my discharge from the hospital. Now I am 34 weeks and 1 day, had my OB appointment today and he took me off the nifidipene. My cervix is the same as it was when I was discharged a week ago, so now that we are past 34 weeks, he said he is happy and I can move around now. I'm still on "house arrest" -- although we got permission to go out to dinner -- but don't have to be fully horizontal.

Both babies are vertex at this time - my OB is comfortable doing a breech extraction is we have to, so right now it is looking like a vaginal birth is in the works (my poor husband . . .)

I'm really hoping I can hold off another couple weeks and let these kids grow and mature some more.

So, just an update - I didn't feel like starting a whole new topic.

    Hope everyone is doing well.

    Erica.

    Hi Everyone,

I just joined the "bedrest" crew. I'm 28 weeks, 5 days and Tuesday just at 28 weeks 2 days, I had painful contrax at work, and they sent me to the hospital in an ambulance, where they say I was contracting every 2-3 minutes. Even though I didn't feel it except for about every 10 minutes, the monitor caught much more. It seems I was only feeling the "strong" ones.
They put me on bedrest until today, but I had a follow up appt.
So they discovered my cervix is shortening. It's 2.7 and "soft" although still closed. 3 weeks ago it was a cent. longer and it was not soft.

They put me on modified. Still need to be with my feet up all day, no standing not even to watch dishes. And absolutely no leaving the house except to go to doctors visits.
Hopefully that will stop the contractions b/c I had them Wednesday, none Thursday, but then today had them again...

So I hope this does the trick. I know it's best for my boys but boy does it suck!!!!!!

[SIZE=12pt]Howdy girls, I was just put on complete bedrest at 21wks 5days, I am now 22wks and 3days pg with fraternal boys. My cervix was a lovely 3cm at my last appointment, but at this month's it had shrunk by half! There was some thinning and funneling aswell. I was already classified as high risk due to PROM & PTL with my first son and multiple miscarriages after that. My Dr. is very doubtful that I'll make it past 32wks and considers anything beyond that a miracle. Right now my hubby is 8 hours west of me at the state police academy, my In-laws are also 8 hours west and my parents are 8.5 hours east of me. My mom came and got both my toddler son and my puppy since I can take care of niether. Basicly I am all alone, and it's very depressing. I have a couple friends who check on me once a day, but my husband wants someone with me 24/7. Since this is impossible, he wants me to convince my Dr. on Monday(my next appt.) to transfer me to the state neonatal center, that happens to only be an hour from both him and my In-laws. I have already been banned from travel since being put on partial/modified bedrest at 13wks. I'm doubtful she'll agree, but I have to ask. The hospital my Dr. is at also won't touch a baby or babies born before 34wks as they don't have the equipment to handle them. Therefore, I have already been told that I will be put on a mercy-flight to a larger hospital that's over 5 hours drive time away. I'd prefer to go to the afore mentioned hospital, because then there would be relatives to stay with for free, while at the closer location we'd be on our own for lodging once the babies are in the NICU and we can't afford that. It's all a big mess really and I don't know what we'll do or what will happen. I was refered to this site by a nice gal on another forum(Ovusoft.com) after posting a whiney vent about feeling so helpless and hopeless. I hope I can perk up with the support of ya'll for my babies' sakes. Sorry this got so long.

    Hello Ladies,
My name is Irem. As of yesterday I am put on moderate bed rest. I started to have contractions couple days ago, and fetal monitor says they are too much and real! My OB told me I probably had a high pain tolerance, that's why I didn't feel much pain.
It scares me a lot, that they started so early. But my cervix is fine.
    I am so bored!!! :(
Good Luck to all of you!

Hi. I'm Mirriam and I am 23w6d today! We are having twins, but we are holding off on finding out what they are until they are born. I was put on restricted activity (get up to shower, eat and use the bathroom) due to contractions at 21w. Luckily, my cervix is still holding tight. I am on Nifedipine which seems to be helping with the big contractions.

This board is great, I hope we can all help each other out through this trying time called bedrest.

    Hi,
I'm brand new to this board :) . We just found out on Tuesday that we are expecting twins. We have a 14 year old daughter & a 5 year old son. Do any of you know what percentage of ladies who are pregnant with twins have to go on bedrest?? I'm just worrying in advance. We have no family in the area, I work outside the home and my husband is out of town for work several days every week.

Have you all heard of any tips to help pre-term labor from starting?

    Thanks for any info!!

How to prevent pre-term labor? That's a very good question and I think there are a couple of things you can do to help yourself have a healthy twin pregnancy, but as for keeping you from having, ptl, I think that is impossible to predict.

Get yourself Dr. Barbara Luke's book "when you are expecting twins, triplets" It will give you some good insight into dietary guidelines, etc. Other than that, use common sense, rest when you are tired, and call your doctor if you have any questions.

    Good luck and have fun!

I haven't had any preterm labor issues and I was put on bedrest (modified) for fluid level issues with the girls at 21 weeks and then strict bedrest at 28 weeks for the beginnings of preeclampsia. Both things were out of my control...so unfortunately bedrest can happen at anytime to anyone....

    Hi Ladies,
My name is Jenea and I am almost 26 weeks pregnant with B/G twins. I was put on bedrest a few days ago after discovering that my cervix has shortened to 19 mm or 1.9 cm (about half the length it was at my appt. 2 weeks ago). I spent a day and night in the hospital for monitoring but luckily I am not having contractions and the babies are doing very well. I had a fetal fibronectin test yesterday morning and it was negative!!! I was able to come home yesterday afternoon!!! I am allowed bathroom and shower privileges and brief trips to the kitchen for food and drink but that is basically it. I was hoping to make it further along than I am but apparently my body had other plans. I am bummed because my husband and I were heading out of town after my appt. on Friday as I had a baby shower in my hometown yesterday.
My husband is very worried and already scrutinizing my every move. I have had several close friends in this same position but I must say that it is VERY different to be on this side of the equation. I am so glad to have found this forum group and I know it will be a lifesaver!

Hello everyone. I just joined today after learning of your website from a friend who is pregnant with twins. I am 30w4d pregnant with twin boys. I've been on bedrest since 19 weeks after a routine ultrasound found that my cervix was thinned to 0.5cm and a rescue cerclage was performed. I was hospitalized for 3 days and sent home on strict bedrest. After a few weeks I was doing well and put on modified bedrest. And at 29 weeks my peri finally allowed me 3 outings per week! It was so nice to finally get out of the house for something other than doctor's appts! But it's always one step forward, two steps back. Last Wednesday I went into labor and they finally got it stopped with the help of some drugs, which I must continue now until I deliver. The docs said at 19 weeks that if I made it to 32 weeks they would be jumping up and down with joy, so the good news is that I'm so close! But I obviously want the best for my babies and know that keeping them in there longer would be best.

So I'm right there with all of you that have been through the ups and downs of bedrest. I've experienced the full range of emotions and can relate to the fear and anxiety that most of you probably feel. All I can say is that if this is the sacrifice we have to make for our little ones, it's well worth it!

Thanks for letting me tell my story...

I was put on bedrest today-a very modified bedrest at this point. Bascially out of work, a sedneatry lifestyle instead of a 9 hours a day at work lifestyle which was causing too many contractions.

I'm hoping to hold onto these kiddos at minimum until 34 weeks, best case is 37 weeks. I think they are coming the week of Memorial Day. At this point there aren't any other concerns like my cervix, ect.

Hi ladies! I was "put on" bedrest today, at 29 weeks. My reason is a little different then the rest of yours. I stood up today and FELT my pubic bone pop. It is causing a sharp, shooting pain through the left side of my pubic bone. The only way to know for sure if it cracked or separated is an x-ray. We won't be doing that, because the treatment for this kind of pain is the same if it's cracked or not: bind your hips and limit mobility as much as possible. I am a SAHM to my 19 month old son and was told by the doctor, that if possible get some help and not walk unless I have to. So now we get to figure this out. :) I was pretty upset when I found out, but I'm glad that there is a support system here.

Hi Everyone! My name is Melissa. I was put on Bedrest about a week ago. I started contracting 4 minutes apart and then Baby A's fluid is low so they put me on bedrest. It isn't that restrictive he just told me light activity and to stay off my feet as much as possible. It is really hard it finally hit me yesterday that I couldn't do much. It has made me very depressed. My mother-in-law is going to be bringing out her scrapbooking stuff so I can I work on that. This week has been especially hard since my daughter had her tonsils and adnoids taken out. We haven't scheduled a c-section or anything, but it will probably result to that.

    Hi all :)
I was put on strict bed rest Weds (at 27weeks 1 day) for strong contractions that were 3-4 minutes apart. They calmed them by the end of the day with injections of Terbutaline at the hosp. The fFN came back negative and there were no cervical changes (other than the fact that baby A has her head pressed up against it, thus contorting it and putting pressure on it). So, they sent me home with an Rx of Terb. and an order of strict bed rest.
I have been doing *ok* since...today the contractions started back up hard and fast again this morning. I took the Rx and they subsided. My check up is tmw morning, I just wanna make it there and see how things are. Wish there was a way to ck the cervix at home!
I'm glad I found this forum, I really need a support group right now!

I was put on hospital bed rest May 9th at 22w 5d. I noticed some spotting that morning and called my doctor...they had me come in right away and my Dr. checked me and said that I was 5cm and one of my bags of water was bulging. My Dr. told me to go straight to the hospital. I didn't have anyone with me so I drove myself. When I got there my sister (who works at the hosp.) met me on the sidewalk out front and told me where to park and walked me in and showed me where to go. I don’t know what I would have done with out her!
When I got here I was contracting about every 1-2 minutes and they checked my cervix again...5cm.
I also had a temp. This really freaked the resident out and they ordered an amnio. By this time my mom and dad and husband were there. The resident called them all in and basically told us that I most likely had an infection in one or both of the baby's sacks and if that was indeed the case they were going to end the pregnancy because of the threat to my life. They put me on mag. just in case and sent me for a the amnio.
My poor husband! He was holding my hand and fanning me with a magazine (I was SO hot from the mag) They did the first amnio and I almost passed out. My ears were ringing and they waited until I gave the "go ahead" for the second one. THAT is something that I hope I NEVER have to do again...I think I would have been O.K. if they hadn't just started the mag.
The amnio came back completely free of infection. (major answer to prayer!)
Fast forward to May 12th. (last Saturday) on a whim on of the Doctors wanted to check me to see what my cervix was doing since I hadn't had any contractions since Wednesday evening...he said I was 2cm and thick! My husband and I just couldn't believe it! He sent another Dr in and they confirmed it. A few hours later they moved me out of Labor and Delivery into high risk OB(very encouraging) and I have been here ever since!
Finally on Tuesday my Dr. gave me permission to take a shower and use the real bathroom. I'm telling you! These are things that I have taken for granted and in a few months I probably will again, but I imagine that when I get home every time I turn that water on for my shower I will think of my stay here :) Looks like for long term I am here at least until June 15th (28 more days!) I have a great husband and family I haven't had a day without at least two visitors. The nurses have been great and I'm finally on the top of the list for a private room! But it sure will be nice to get home! That's my story, sorry its so long. I'm looking forward to meeting and getting to know some of you!

My name is Melissa(lis21_78). I have been on bedrest since 20wk for PTL. I started contracting every 5-7 minutes, but had no cervical changes. I was started on Niphedipine 10mg every 8 hours and strict bedrest at that time. I spent 2 weeks on strict bedrest, then changed to modified bedrest. 10 days later started contracting again and niphedipine was increased to 20mg and back on strict bedrest for 2 weeks. I am now 27w 4d and cont. with niphedipine and mod. bedrest. I now have very few contractions, but have not had my cervix checked. It was measured last at my u/s in April and was 4.3cm. At my u/s on May 11 Abby's head was sitting on the cervix and shadowed it. I see the OB on Friday 5/25, maybe will get checked then. Also having glucose test then.
Some days this has been the longest pregnancy, and others seems like they will be here before we are ready. Anyone else feel that way?

    Hope everyone is doing well...
    Melissa
