Okay...I have a theory I wanted to check out.
The question is, how were your twins conceived and did you need any bed rest. Just wondering if spontaneous twins required less bed rest than those that were "helped"...

Mine were spontaneous ID. I went on modified bedrest the day we found out it was twins at 10 weeks. Strict bedrest somewhere between 22-24 weeks

Spontaneous (frats or id's, we don't know [IMG] Haven't tested, yet) but no bedrest, in fact no problems of any type until two days before they were born.

low dose clomid- strict bedrest from week 20 to 37 for incompetent cervix. I don't think your theory will hold because there are very many fertility treatments and very many reasons for bedrest so you would have to be asking a more specific question to check for correlations.

IVF twins, bedrest from 16 weeks on due to IC. My IC would have been a factor leading to the bedrest regardless of the infertility assistance though.

looks pretty even right now... but i fit your theory pretty well.

injectables + IUI to get the twins... bedrest from 21 weeks till delivering at 35 weeks.

spontaneous/surprise singleton... no bedrest (i did have a preventative cerclage placed b/c of the problems w/my first pg, but when the cerclage was removed, my cervix stayed intact. my dr thinks that i am not a "true" IC, rather it was the twin pg that was just too much for my body)

interesting poll... given my history, i often wonder about those things.

1 round of clomid to make me ovulate was all I needed. Twins do run in my family too. Bedrest at 27weeks. Delivered at 35.3weeks.

IVF Twins here....no bedrest, delivered at 37 weeks + 1 day....but I did finish working at 23 weeks and took it easy the whole summer. I really think that is the reason I carried for as long as I did.

I do fit your theorty (spontaneous with no bed rest) and as an aside my OB told me that in her experience, spontaneous twin moms have fewer complications than those with help, so she'd agree with you as well. Interesting to see the results here.

I went into my (spontaneous monozygotic) pregnancy thinking I'd be fine, because all the preemie twins I knew were conceived via IVF and I figured there must be a link. I was on modified bedrest as a precaution at 25 weeks, and ast 27 I was in preterm labor and at 29 weeks I had my own preemie birth and learned the hard way that you can never count on statistics.

IVF Frat twins, no bedrest.. worked 43 hours up until the day before their birth with a scheduled c-section. No complications!

We used IVF due to male infertility and I had no bedrest. In fact, I worked out up to the day my water broke at 38 weeks!!!

I am wondering if "assisted" twin moms are put on bedrest because the fertility docs recommend it. Also, I bet the age of those women might be slighty higher (which would cause them to be on bedrest more)...what do you think?

Also, the pole doesn't account for the same number of fertility vs. natural mommies...You would have to have the same number of women for each catagory in order to prove or disprove your theory.

I did IVF and I only went to the fertility dr. thru the first trimester (which is probably a little longer than others), then I was seen by my OB and the peri for the rest of my pregnancy, so I don't think that a fertility dr would really put anyone on bed rest.

Overall there are sooo many reasons that a woman would be put on bed rest during pregnancy, and so many dr's have different views of "high risk" pregnancies and what would deem besd rest or not, so I think that it would be hard to tell just from an assisted vs. spontaneous perspective.

Spontaneous frats born at 38 weeks 1 day. I was hospitalized for PTL at exactly 33 weeks with 3 days of hosp. bedrest, 4 more days strict bedrest at home, 2 weeks modified bedrest until I hit 36 weeks. I will say I think it was more a case of erring on the side of caution in my case-even at 4 cm dilated and 90% effaced from 36 weeks I still had to be induced. Katelyn was at 0 station for 2 months prior to their birth and when I was hospitalized it was by another OB as mine was teaching that week and not in the office. My OB did come to see me shortly after we got to the hospital and he scaled back some of the orders of the other OB-ie terb instead of mag. sulfate and she was ready to keep me in the hospital for atleast a week.
