    Hi all,

I am new to this bedrest forum. Well...here is my dilemma...Last time I visited my OB, he said that after 28 weeks, I should go on modified bedrest and quit my work :( That's fine. But my problem is, I live in an apartment in the 3rd floor. I have 6 more months left on the lease, so, I cannot move out of the apartment now. If I go on modified bedrest, will it be fine with me to climb up and down the stairs, atleast once or twice a week to get to the doctor's office or to the Ultrasound lab? What happens if I go on complete bedrest in case of contractions? Will I still be able to climb up and down (just for necessity and not for anything else)? I am really in a confused state.
Am sure lots of twin moms would have gone through the situation. Any insight would be really helpful.
Thank you all!!! And have a wonderful day!!!

Hello and welcome to the party!

I am on bedrest for cerclage/incompetent cervix and dealing with TTTS. I have potty privileges and can get a shower once every day or two. Otherwise, I'm always down in bed. I do go up/down stairs when I have to go to the docs. At the docs' offices, they even have me sit in the waiting room, which makes me nervous if there is a delay. But my docs are fine with it.

When I was on bedrest with my 2nd preg., I had permission to go up/down stairs once each day to move into a bed in our living room (change of scenery) during daytimes and back up to our master bed to sleep at night.

Just ask your doc to see what they think!

My doc said the same thing. I'm on strict bedrest, but I'm allowed to go downstairs once a day. I like to be in the family room when my girls get home from school so they don't link pregnancy and sickness together. (I keep telling them I'm not sick, just resting a lot to keep the babies growing!) Then I head back upstairs in the evening for bed.

Check with your doc....Seems like they all have their own interpretation of bedrest...

Just wanted to say I agree with both the PP. I am on bedrest with bathroom privledges. I can also go up/down my stairs once a day if needed. Good luck and ask your ob what they specific restrictions he/she will have for you.

Hello! I was put on modified bedrest at 14 weeks and on strict bedrest at 24 weeks. I was fortunate that we have our guest room downstairs so my DH and I moved into that room. Basically on modified bedrest (although may vary by doctor) yes you can go up and down the stairs but no more than once a day if needed. You're able to go to the kitchen and pick up your snact and head right back down to your bedrest position; you can shower but they should be very quick showers. Otherwise, it's best to stay put; you basically want to be off your feet as much as possible. So leaving your home to go to the doctors office will be fine.

If you're put on strict bedrest then you'll have to limit your showers to less than 5 minutes; there's no getting up for snacks (your DH/Significant Other/family will need to leave things near you for you to get); you basically go to the restroom and then back to your bedrest position. And yes, you can go to the doctors office but you go right back home after. Once again, you stay off your feet as much as possible.

Hang in there - you'll be fine. Feel free to PM me if you have any other questions. :D

When I was released from the hospital I was told I could go down and up the stairs once a day. If going up and down the stairs is your only option then your doctor will probably be okay with that.

My bedroom is on the 2nd floor, the kitchen on the 1st. I was okay'd to take the stairs 3 times a day, up until my cervix shrunk drastically despite having a cerclage in. Then I was told to limit the stairs to as little as possible. So DH moved our mini fridge and microwave to our room and packed me up food each day to eat while he was at work.

Thank you all....All your replies give me hope...
I was able to talk to the triage nurse at my ob/gyn yesterday and she said it's fine if I have to climb up or down just for necessity.
I anyway have a doctor appointment next week. Will talk to her more in detail.

Thanks again to you all!!! Have a wonderful day!!!
