we had a really good sleep schedule down with the boys. Bed at 8pm, slept til 8am. Nap from 1-3. Here lately when we put them to bed they don't go to sleep till almost 10. They aren't crying or anything, just playing and talking. Does this mean they are getting too much sleep? They go right to sleep for the nap and are bears if they don't get that 2 hours in. anyone else have nighttime crib players? What did you do?

my girls have been in toddler beds since 18 months & have gone through phases of playing for hours every night before bed & then other times when they fall asleep as soon as we put them down. :pardon: we usually just ignored them playing, because like you, it didn't seem to affect them in the morning & i know they aren't ready to drop the afternoon nap yet (the few days we've skipped their nap for whatever reason they've had Melt Downs a la Linda Blair in the Exorcist right around dinner time). unless it's affecting them or you guys in some way, i wouldn't worry about it.

My girls sometimes "talk" for an hour or so at night. The are in their cribs 7pm-7am and nap 12:30-2:30. Some nights they crash, other nights we love to hear them talk. As long as no one is crying, it all ok :) I'd say if your boys are napping well then they still need the 2 hr nap. I know if we have a busy afternoon the girls seem to crash right away. Each day is a little different. I always think of it as they are discussing and reliving their day at night, maybe they need it to wind down. If they are good sleepers, then they will fall asleep when they are tired of talking.

I'll ditto the above :) As long as they aren't up and playing, I can handle a little bit of talking :) Mine only nap about 90 mins in the afternoon so most nights they drop right off to sleep. As long as they aren't excessively grouchy during the day, i wouldn't worry about it :)

My guys sometimes need "wind down" time at night and can babble/sing/bounce for a LOOOONG time before dropping off. Then other nights, we put them down wrigging and fussing, and they fall asleep by the time we've made it down the stairs!

ITA with PPs; as long as they seem happy and not over-tired, I'd just let them work it out. :)

Mine do this too! They jump, squeal, throw toys back and forth, talk, laugh. I think they need the wind down time. They can be acting so tired and as soon as we close the door they get a second wind! We just let them go. Usually once DS is ready to fall asleep he whines and we go back in, give him all his toys back, and he goes to sleep.
