my kids (will be 5 in May) are quickly outgrowing their toddler beds (DS more than DD) when you went to big beds did you go twin size or full size? also as they get older do you find that you have to lay with them still (making a full size bed a better option)?

My boys are in twin beds. A full size bed wasn't even an option because of space (they share a room, and the room isn't that big).

If you have the space and can afford it, I would get full size beds. It just seems more practical in the long run, but I'm not sure why I feel that way. :unknw:

My boys do still like me to lay down with them, but they share a room and insist that their twin beds be side by side. It's like laying down on a king size bed - one that is split down the middle. My daughter is 6 and occasionally likes us to lay down with her and I have to admit, having her in a full size bed makes that very convenient. However, the larger bed also allows her to sleep with quite a collection of stuffed animals, barbie dolls, and other such stuff!

Both of my twins are in a twin bed, we never used a toddler bed. I am thinking of eventually getting DD a double/full size bed since her room is big enough, but DS's room is not, so he'll always have a twin bed. I have never had to lay with my kids so that has never been a factor in determining bed size for them.

My oldest DD has had a full size bed since age 2.5.

We do twin beds because of space. The twins share a room, so there's no room for two full size beds. We do have another bedroom but now that I've bought the twin beds, I'm not going to buy two more beds, so they are stuck with them! I don't lay down with my twins at all unless we are playing around, and then it doesn't bother me to lay on their twin bed but I am super skinny.

we have bunks due to space. My guys still like me to cuddle with them, it is fine in the bottom twin, not so much in the top!

I have 2 that are in twin beds (my 7 yr. old 5 yr. old DD share a room) b/c of space issues. My DS has a full size bed in his room. We don't lay in bed with them really, but do sit on the beds to read them their bedtime books. No issues with the bed sizes.

Mine went right to twin beds. We just don't have the space for full size in their room anyway. I rarely lie in bed with them, only very briefly if one woke up at night. Their beds are bunk beds split apart, but we're going to be be bunking them soon.

All mine are in twin beds, the girls because of space and my son because it was the extra bed we had when the girls got bunk beds. But if we put a full bed in his room it would take up the whole room anyway (very small bedrooms in our house). My dh and I only sometimes lay down with our kids and it's mostly my son for a little bit (like when we are trying to wake him up or if he just wants to snuggle), the twin bed is fine for us since it's just a little while we fit fine on it. If you can fit the full and you feel you are going to be laying with them a lot then I would probably go with the full bed. Do they like to lay with each other in bed? Mine never really cared about sleeping next to each other but if yours likes to every now and then then a full would be a good option.

Twin beds here as well, and you know how big Jonathan is! At this point we don't have plans to get them anything bigger.

Mine have fulls, but that is because we have the space in the rooms. The twins did used to have twin beds, and did fine in those, even with us laying with them for a few minutes at night. My question is, will you get them full beds as they get older, or keep them in a twin? Only asking because if you intend to go bigger as they get older, you might as well do it now and avoid buying 4 beds instead of 2. But, if they will stay in twins until college (or whatever) I say twin beds are perfectly fine!

My two have twins, they were bunk beds that converted to twins when we moved into the house. They both have plenty of room for their toys they sleep with and themselves. I don't see me buying them bigger beds unless we move and get a bigger place.

Mine are in twin beds, bunks. When Andrea was here more often we had 2 sets of twin bunks, and not much of anything else in the room.

For me its strange to have kids in anything bigger than twin beds. That's what we had, that's what all of our friends had. I didn't have a bigger bed until after Andrea was born. And the only reason I got one then was it is what my parents had to loan me. She didn't get a bed until she was 3 after we moved into our own apartment, before that she was in a crib. She stayed in a twin bed until she left for college (and ended up in a long twin there). And many of you know how tall she is (nearly 6ft), she is much more comfortable if she can stretch out on a bigger bed.

Its likely mine will remain in twins, and they will remain bunks for the foreseeable future. We have tiny rooms and not much chance of being able to move.

We went straight from cribs to twin beds. They still share a room and there isn't enough room in there for anything bigger. If they eventually split into separate rooms I would like to get them bigger beds, but I'm hoping that's not for several years.

This is just what I was thinking also...think of the long-term plan. If you have the room, and would get them bigger beds eventually, I say do it now. Have fun!

We went straight from cribs to twin beds at about age 3. They barely take up half the bed at age 5, so I think they're fine for many more years. (We never laid with them regularly, but there is room for me to snuggle up with them.)

I had a twin bed till I graduated from college. :pardon: I hardly knew any kids who had full beds, though maybe things are different nowadays.... Anyway, I have no plans to buy them bigger beds, and we don't have room anyway.

Mine are all still in toddler beds now. They will be moving to twin beds basically because that's all we have the space for.
