Bed Rest - When were you taken off of it?

I have been on bed rest since January -- a total of 18 weeks so far -- and it's driving me crazy lately!! <_<

For those of you who have been on bed rest toward the end of your pregnancy for pre-term labor, when did your doctors take you off of bed rest? Or did you stay on until the very end? I have heard a lot of doctors take women off of bed rest for PTL at 34 weeks.

Just curious what "standard practice" dictates... my doctors seem to stray from the norm, and I am not sure what they will recommend, but I'd like to know your experiences.

    Thanks a lot! :D

18 weeks, wow - I don't know if I would have been able to do it!

I was put on bedrest at 32 wks and 5 days due to PTL -- in the hospital for four days, then sent home on nifidipene until 34 weeks, then taken off both the meds and the bedrest (although I didn't do much, my contractions really kicked up once I stopped the nifidipene and moved around more, it wasn't very comfortable.) I then delivered at 35 and 4 (after my membranes were stripped at 35 and 1 -- I lost my mucus plug just before my appointment and my cervix had thinned out to nothing, so the doc decided to move things along a bit).

Good luck and you are doing a great job!

:clapping: Wow! Way to go mom! You have done such a good job for your babies! I was taken off at 35 weeks, but by then I didn't want to get up!

:clapping: Congratulations on sticking it out for so long! I'm startin week 12 of bedrest and I have about 3 or 4 more to go. I can imagine how insane you're going. I had a really tough time the first 3 week and then I got used to it. But here for about the past two weeks I've been losing it. Weekends are the WORST, especially since the weather's been nice. I too am curious about bedrest sentence being lifted because my house is a disaster area and I really want to help my husband organize things for the boys. I normally here 35 weeks. Good luck and congratulations again!

I was on bedrest early in my pg for a hematoma for nearly a month in my first trimester and then in the hospital from 27 weeks to 30+ weeks for ptl. I was then was released and placed on strict home bedrest until 34+ weeks and even then I was only allowed a very modified amount of movement. I went into labor within days of the modified movement. Bedrest was soooo hard, I know how sick you are of it, but it is worth every minute. My advice would be to stay put as long as you can, every day counts at this point. We were very lucky, even at under 35 weeks, both girls were healthy and only in the nicu for 4 days for feed & grow and observation. Best wishes!

I'll be taken off all bedrest at 34 wks, and I'm actually allowed up a bit more now since they figured out that my contractions only seem to show up if I have an infection or I am on my feet all day.

Thank you to all of you for sharing your encouraging experiences, and for your kind words of support... it IS tough, but also very worthwhile! I am so fortunate to at least be on home bed rest, and I'm just 3 days away from 34 weeks-- a very exciting milestone! :) Hang in there, everyone... we can do this!

Congrats on making it this far so far!! You're just a couple days ahead of me. Doc will lift some restrictions for me at 34 weeks, and take me off bedrest at 35. I think for the extra week, even though some restrictions will be lifted, I'll play it safe till the 35 week mark anyway just to make sure they don't come during week 34.
