I was in the hospital from 30wk 6 days to 31weeks 4 days and it was hard and uncomfortable. I was released last Monday and started my bed rest at home. I just recline on the couch all day only to get up for a shower and to use the bathroom. Depending on what couch I am on (upstairs or down) Either my hips and back hurts or my back on the left side mid way hurts. When the back, hip or butt pain gets too much I have to get up and walk around. Sometimes that helps sometimes it does not. I feel guilty for moving around and today I did a bit more than I probably should. Although I had only a few contractions all day which is normal. Oh and to add to my discomfort baby B (my boy) is in my ribs on my right side. Causing so much pain at times it hurts to lay or sit or stand. I want to keep these babies in awhile more for sure but I am in so much pain I don't know what to do. My Dr. does not believe bed rest will stop preterm labor only but may help keep contractions at bay. I am on procardia for that also. I am 2cm and 60% as of last Wed. I guess I am just ranting because it is what I call a selfish day... I just want them out... but I know they need to cook some more, and I also know nothing I do or don't do will keep them from coming when God wants... in the mean time... how to make me comfortable....

I was in the hospital on strict bedrest for 3 months. I don't remember feeling a tremendous amount of pain, but I do remember being uncomfortable. The thing that helped me get comfortable was an egg crate on my bed and lots of pillows. I rotated my positions around quite a bit. One thing that was nice about being in the hospital was the adjustable bed. Sometimes it felt nice to put my legs higher than my head. I varied my positions all the time, at least every 1/2 hour even if it was just a little bit. I also did physical therapy. Really simple stuff. Pointing and flexing my toes, mini leg lifts, stretching those big rubberbands with my arms. Hope you find some relief :)

Oh those last few weeks are so uncomfortable! I had a boy's bum shoved right into my ribs too... this is really mean, but I used to hold a cold can of soda on my ribs so he'd scoot away and give me some relief for a few minutes. There's not much room in there so he was always right back there when I took it off, but it gave me just enough relief to make it through the day. My ribs hurt just thinking about it. I also showered a lot.. if you have a bench in your shower just run some nice warm water over yourself a couple times a day.

I was on bedrest for 17 weeks and I still remember how unconfortable those last weeks were. The only thing that helped me a bit were long warm showers massaging myself with the warm water, more than once a day if I was allowed to get up that much. Maybe you could try that, or a warm bath if you are allowed that. GL - it is worth it struggeling through these days!

Have your tried a recliner? I loved that as a break from the couch and really helped my back. I also recommend the hot showers. Good luck.

Warm, not hot baths. I also used a heating pad on low on my back and legs only. (I know some Dr's don't like this) I never did get any relief for the baby in my ribs, until they both went transverse, and even then it was bad. I think I still have pain! OUCH!!!
In my case, I totally think bedrest worked! Well, until 33 wks when they refused to stay in anymore. Now after all the growth problems they have had, I wish I could have done more to keep them in a few weeks longer.
    I'm sorry you're hurting!

When I am on my upstairs couch it does recline but that is what causes the back pain... when I am on my downstairs couch it does not recline so I keep my feet up on the ottoman and that is when my hips and but hurt!

You had your babies at 33 weeks and they still had problems? What kind of growth problems (if you don't mind sharing) I kinda thought that at 33 weeks I was "in the clear" for problems. I use a rice pack heating pad and I put it on my back. I am considering trying to see if my masseuse will come to the house for me so I don't have to go anywhere.

OOOOOH, a massage would have been Heaven back then! If you can do that, I would!!!
They were obviously off the chart when they were born and continue to be so. They aren't "catching-up". It's been years of high calorie feedings and weight checks, etc. I just wish I could go back and be pg about a month longer.
