Ok, so this is a bit early, but we are about to move to a place where there won't be big baby stores (i.e. - no Babies R Us, no BuyBuyBaby like we have here) and we are thinking about bed rails for later.

Do you have a brand that you like or dislike that you use for when the kiddos get into big beds/cribs without the front? We found "Brevey Rails" at BuyBuy Baby and then Safety 1st has some top-of-the mattress attaching ones.

    Thanks!

I wouldn't bother with them. I never used them and my boys went from cribs to twin beds. They each fell out about 2 times the first night, and that was it.

We had safety first ones with my oldest DD and used them until she was around 4 years old. They tucked under the mattress and were very useful. We will use them for Emilie and Trevor as well.

We started our using bed rails (girls were about 27mths when we switched to twin beds) and we ended up taking them off about 3wks later. My girls would play with them consantly and wouldn't leave them alone. We had a safetly 1st one and another kind (sorry can't remember the name) that attached to the bed and squished it down. But since my girls wouldn't leave them alone I was scared they would hurt themselves playing with them or break them so we took them down. One fell out of her bed once and the other fell out twice. Neither one got hurt falling out, I put down some extra blankets on the floor between their two beds so if they did fall it would be a softer landing.

The reason I like having a little rail on their bed (we have toddler beds because I got them REALLY cheap at the MOMS sale) because it holds some of their "stuff" on the bed. They love having little things in bed with them. Right now it's a book and their favorite little things. So, for that reason I love the rails on their t-beds.

We used the under mattress one's (although not properly) at my parents house in Reno on their twin beds (they are rather high for twin beds - fat mattresses) and I would probably use them if they were in beds like that right now.

Good luck!! Where are you moving that you won't have access to these things? Will you be unable to shop via internet?

We are in toddler beds but when we travel we use the under-the-mattress rails (I think they are Safety 1st or Summer brand).

    Thanks for the input.

Diane - we will be able to shop via internet, but Michigan has passed a law that you have to pay sales tax on internet purchases (along with shipping) - and so we thought we might be able to save a couple bucks by getting them now. We are moving to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The closest "big" town in Green Bay, WI - a few hours away.

We just got these [post="http://cgi.ebay.com/Set-2-Childs-Toddlers-PORTABLE-TRAVEL-BED-RAILS-54-in_W0QQitemZ120279120236QQihZ002QQcategoryZ20436QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem"]bed rails[/post] from ebay for travel and so they can sleep in the same queen bed with a divider. I liked how portable these are. Hope this helps!
