Bed Bumpers

I was planning on using these until they went to toddler beds, but they've been ripping the ties off [completely], untieing them whenever they get a chance, and stepping on them trying to either climb into or out of their cribs [not sucessful yet on either attempts - thankfully]. They seem to be more of a nusince than helping. On the other hand I notice my girls are wild sleepers and I'll walk in to find their heads [or sometimes faces] right up against them.

    What to do? [IMG]

We stopped at 15 months but really could have removed them earlier... they're really not necessary IMO. We never used regular bumpers either, just the breathable ones.

My twins are wild sleepers too so I need to have those bumpers.I am planning to keep them until I see them ripping them off which did not happen yet. Many times I saw my DD putting her legs through or at
night her feet is out through bars. For her I bought those tall mesh ones and it did solve leg problem.

My LO's still have their bumpers in their cribs. They sometimes sleep with their heads pushed up against the bars - which would hurt if there wasn't bumpers.

But if my LO's were doing what yours are - ripping the ties off, etc, and I know they probably will eventually, I would take the bumpers out. It'd be too easy for them to put the ties in their mouths and choke, etc.

My boys will be 26 months on the 18th. I JUST took down their bumpers. I couldn't stand changing their sheets! It was impossible! I even just took down their mobiles too! I guess I had to realize they weren't babies anymore... LOL!

But we had no issues of them pulling off strings, climbing out, etc... so it wasn't broke-and there was no need to fix it!

We never used them! I was too paranoid at first about suffocation, then when they got older I was worried they'd use them to climb out, now I know they would use them to climb out. Such a bummer because they were so darling and I revolved my whole room decoration around them :)

We used them until we put them in toddler beds. They used them as pillows and foot props. A fair amount of the ties were ripped.

We still have them at 19 months. They don't try and climb out of the crib yet. When they do or when they move to toddler beds, the bumpers will go. DD1 used them until I transitioned her to a toddle bed at 18 months. I would take them out if they are a problem.

Thanks for your input, ladies. I'm just trying to weigh out which option would be best. Leave the bumpers there and go around and re-tie most of them twice a day [the ones that are still there] - or - Take them off and risk sore heads while sleeping awkwardly. DH is convinced that they should go. That they're more trouble than they're worth, but I'm more worried about their comfort than anything else. Though I am sure they'll get used to sleeping w/o them.. Maybe I'll wait another month [so they're officially 18 mos] before taking them down. [IMG] [IMG]

We never used the ones that came with their bedding sets; I read it was a SIDS risk so I put them away. My guys are pretty active sleepers, but have never gotten an arm or leg stuck in the crib slats. They also end up wedged against the slats most nights, so they wake up with what I affectionately call "crib head" in the morning. Don't worry, their heads are still soft and the dents fill out by the time breakfast is over. ;)

We used ours until they started using them to step on and climb out of the cribs... I would say that was about 18 months... I honestly don't miss them!

their heads will be fine... I never did make one for my dd (too little time!), and my ds's had to have the foam insert taken out at 9 or 10 mo. when we started using it to try to climb out! the thing that I like about not having them in the cribs... changing sheets is a breeze. the thing I wish i still used them for... keeps the pacifier in more... ah well. good luck.

Max still has a bumper but I only kept it in to stop his dummies falling out! But if I was in your position I would just take them out now.
