The instructions say to put it under the mattress. I cannot believe the sensor would pick up movement from a tiny baby. I just got one at my shower and was going to buy another, but wanted to make sure it is worth it first.

We didn't have them, but I've heard good things about that kind of monitor.

We have them and they are FAB! They do indeed really pick up just a tiny baby's breathing motions, I promise! We only ever had one false alarm, and that was because Owen accidentally turned the monitor part off, and it made the nursery unit beep. I can't reccomend them highly enough. BUT in order to use them, you need your twins in seperate beds, with two monitors and you can't attach any kind of moblie directly to the crib. You also can't use them for the co-sleepers, as it will read the movement of the adults in the bed. The sensor pad will read *any* (and I mean ANY) motion as that the baby is moving and can result in false positives. We just bought mobiles that we could hang from the ceiling and it worked fine.

I actually just picked up a set of them this past weekend. I was skeptical as well, really not believing that it would be able to sense movement. Let me tell you, they are SUPER sensitive. I tested it with a feather stroked across it, and it registered. So be sure that the sensitivity level you have is appropriate - enough to ensure the kids are breathing, but not so much that you walking down the hallway outside their room also registers.

    Some additional notes:
    1. I live in a townhouse. My neighbor has a wireless phone. I somehow had picked up her phone conversation on it, so I had to change channels. These things have multiple channels to select, mine had channel1 through channel9.
    2. I keep a set of parental units in my bedroom upstairs, and the other set downstairs. I had to set one kid's monitors to channel 1, the other to channel 7. When the monitors were on other channels, they would pick up each other's signal too readily, so when I turned off one kid's motion monitor (connected to the pad), it was still registering movement because it was finding the other set's channel. So be sure to test the crap out of this to make sure it'll work right.

Love these things so far, they give me a little more peace of mind, especially since Ben came down with a cold and his coughing makes me nervous.
