My husband and are are having a heck of a time bathing our boys in an efficient (but fun!) manner. They are getting way to squirmy for the infant tub that I can fit in the kitchen seat.

We've tried putting them in bath "seats" (one in each at the same time), but the seats rub on their little legs (and these guys are not big...only 13 pounds) and they can't sit up very well in them and just end up slouching. I've put towels everything to both prop them up and protect them from the hard plastic corners, but it doesn't work.

Since they can't sit up unassisted for longer than 20 seconds, how should I bathe them?

I want them to have fun in the bath. They LOVE splashing around and kicking water on eachother. But, it literally takes my husband and I 20 minutes to wring out the wet towels that we use to hold them in place, dry the bath seats, etc. Not to mention, getting them bathed, creamed and clothed after the bath. It is quite a process.

Sorry about the long explanation BUT...how the heck does everyone else do it? Any special product out there that is particuarily helpful? Surely bathtime should not be this much work!

(I know they will sit up unassisted within the next couple of months, and then bathtime will get easier).

I kept my girls in the infant tub until they were able to sit up by themselves - but I remember switching the tub from the kitchen sink to the bathtub after a few months. I did not have to worry about taking the infant tub out and drying it off, because I could just empty it into the big tub and let it dry right there. Good luck!

I know my infant seat had one "side" for infants and one for toddlers. Once mine could hold their head up, I put their backs against the toddler side...they sat up much higher and they had more for their legs...It still wasn't a blast for them or for us, but it worked. Just wait...in a few months - there will be a party in the tub!! ha Hang in there

My girls are 7 mos. now and we still bathe them in the infant tub in the sink. They are 13 and 15 lbs. Ours is the tub that turns from a newborn tub to infant tub to toddler tub, depending how you use it. They fit just fine in it and sit on the little seat inside of it.... One girl just sits there waiting to be cleaned, the other one splashes EVERYWHERE! :)

But, for awhile I was just putting them in the sink basin itself. They were a little to squirmy for my comfort though and adding wet on top of it, I was afraid they'd fall out of my grip and hit their heads on the faucet or something.... :(

sorry I couldn't be much help, just telling you how we do it. :)

I use a infant tub that came with a sling thing that you lay the baby on and it also came with a sprayer thing too which is better than the kitchen one b/c you fill this separate container and you don;t have to worry about the temp changing. I got it at B r'us and it is great! I have to do dinner/bedtime/bath thing myself as my DH works until 8 and gets home after they go to bed during the week (lucky him right?) But I can do them both separately of course, in a matter of 10-15 minutes from start to finish dressed in pj's and all, I just have the other one wait in their high chair next to us and talk to both of them. I found that the receiving blankets (I even cut a few in half) worked great to keep over them if it was a little chilly, but at least you don't have to use towels... My guys love to splash too s I'm usually soaked, and they are about the same weight as yours and the tub I have works fine, they are getting a bit squirmy but they are safe where they are. You sound like your struggling, it should be fun not chaos maybe you should try another kind of tub, do you have any friends that have ones that you could try before you go buy another?

i know exactly what you mean! my girls are 5 months old. by the time i have massaged and given them a bath, i am so exhausted. they just dont stay still. but i am still using the infant tub as they cant sit too long unassisted. i guess thats one of the reasons its more tiring. once they start sitting unassisted, the whole process should become some what easier.. or so i hope!!!

    best of luck.

    Hi :)
We bathe them one at a time in the baby tub (its the kind that goes from newborn to toddler depending on how you use it). We just started bathing them in the big tub because it was too much work and too much mess when we were doing it in the kitchen. Now we can just dump the tub. Normally we do this as a team. So, maybe I'll prep G while DH bathes M. Then I'll bathe G while DH dresses M. It used to go pretty fast, but now McKenna likes to splash and play (see my recent post with videos...oh and you can see the tub there too :)) and Genevieve is trying to like splashing. I've bathed them by myself before by putting them in the bumbos by the side of the tub and talking to whoever isn't in the bath. But that can be clumsy and take much longer, so I don't do it that way often.

    HTH!

I don't know if my answer will help you, but just adding how we bathe our two (they're 8 months). We have the Safety First bathtub. It has the rounded bar that goes across their waist area with two slots to put their legs through. They're too little to really have the bar actually hold them, but they are sitting up on their own, so it helps, but they do slip sometimes, so I still have to hold them. Or at least be on the ready should I see that they are getting a little too rowdy splashing and jeopardizing themselves.

Anyway, we've been bathing them with their baby tub in the big tub. I put a pillow under my knees (that is now only used for this purpose) and it's been fine on my back. I lean my left forearm on the rounded bar and hold their chest with my left hand (I believe you can switch the bar's side, depending if you are righty or lefty). With my right hand I bathe them. It's gone pretty smoothly.

Within a couple of weeks, they'll be sitting up so well, you'll forget what a pain it was! Good luck!

I used to put my two in laundry baskets once they were too big for the baby baths

I just used the infant tub (I had to move it from the sink to the bathtub when the splashing got out of hand) until they could sit up pretty well by themselves. It was a 2 man job for awhile - I had my hand behind one and dh with the other - in case they tipped backwards - but now they do just fine. In fact - they crawl all over the tub!

I have been bathing mine separately in the infant tubs, but wanted to find a way to bathe them together. My DH has started working late nights and I am doing the whole night time routine by myself. Well, last night I bathed them together in their bumbos. You have to make sure and not get too much water in the tub because the bumbos will float, but I could get enough to cover their bottoms. I gave them some toys and they spent awhile in there playing (by my choice). I had to keep pouring water over them to keep them warm, but I do that anyway in the infant tub.
