I am on bedrest with getting up for bathroom only (and a 5 minute shower). I assume I can't take a bath then - right? I know it is probably a dumb question. My cervix is only a little dilated 1-2 cm. I really think a bath would help my aching back, but I didn't think it was an option (even though I am pretty much laying down during it). Can anyone answer this for me?

My peri said no baths, due to the risk of infection. I had a cerclage in place but if you are dilated I would think it would be the same situation.

    Call your doctor to check.

My doctor said it was fine-although he kind of laughed and said good luck getting in and out of the tub...he is right, I can barely get out of bed! I think it depends on what you are on bed rest for-I would just call and ask to be on the safe side.
    PS-I havent even tried yet-

I don't feel right about taking a bath being dilated. AND I don't see how the heck I could get up from the tub if I ever got down there !!! It does sound nice to take a warm bath though.

Jeez, I wish I had read this two days ago. I just got home from the hospital yesterday. Short cervix, dialated to 2 cms, PTL...now on bedrest. The hospital bed and contractions had me so sore that I asked to take a bath while I was there and they said sure, just don't soak for a long time. So I took a bath. Grr, hopefully everything will be okay.

I saw my OB today and actually asked if I could take baths. I had assumed that it was off the list because they had said "shower". She said baths were fine. However, my cervix is still closed so I'm not sure if that makes a difference.

I am allowed to take baths since I still have my mucus plug. It gives me some nice relief from the pressure of of my abdomen.

I would think it would be ok as long as your water was intact.

I couldn't make it without my baths. Lay on your side in the tub, gently move to hands and knees to get up. Just this last night was the first that I have needed extra help from DH to get out. Water relaxes the muscles and is wonderful for bloodpressure also. You can labor in water, you can deliver in water. If you are ultra concerned about germs and what not make sure your tub is super clean and shower before laying in the tub.
