How do I know what size bathing suit to buy for my girls? Since I'm from New England my family and friends think I'm crazy to be thinking about it, but if I want something coordinating, I need to shop now! They are currently 6 months old and in 3-6, 6 and 6-9 month clothing. They are around 15 and 16 pounds. Any suggestions? Also, I haven't even looked at swim diapers, any suggestions for buying those?

At that age, it is easier to just put them in a swim diaper, rather than have to deal with that and a swimsuit. Little girl swimsuits are so cute though! The swim diapers go by weight, just like a regular diaper.

Target has a nice selection of swim suits with 12 months as the smallest size, but they run very small, and they fit my girls who are 17 and 20 lbs. You might want to check there because your girls will be much bigger this summer and will probably fit in those suits. They have very cute terrycloth coverups too and a good selection of sun hats.

    Kristie,
I bought my girls a bathing suit from Target, but they are pushing the 20 lb mark. Maybe I need to return it for a larger size, I noticed that they were kinda small looking... Hope I kept the receipt.

For my older daughter at this age, I ended up with a 12-18month sized bathing suit. In my experience, the bathing suits tend to run small, & especially now with my 2 year old, she gets upset & cries "too tight!". So I tend to buy on the big size. My girls are 9 months, but similar weights to yours, & I bought a 6-12 month suit, & also 12 month for my bigger twin. Swim diapers, just go by the weights on the package. If you use disposable, you'll probably still need size Small.
    Good luck.

My girls are 17 and 18 lbs and I bought them a 18 month swin suit. I bought it last fall on sale and was guessing at the size. I took it to FL lats Jan and it fit nicely, I may have to buy one more before summers out. I bought a terrycloth coverup from Target for the girls and the matching hat and boy do I just love them.

I almost always go up a size in swimsuits to accomodate for the swim diapers. I use either the Huggies or Pampers swim diapers and they are sized by weight. You would probably need size 2 if they are 16 lbs. I think size 1 goes to 16 lbs in the Huggies anyway. Just be aware that they are not at all absorbent, so I don't put them on until we get to the pool, otherwise our carseats are soaked.

FYI - the girls swimsuits at Target run really small!

I was just at Target as we are leaving for florida in a week (yes, a 3 1/2 year old, 2 nine month olds) and my husband and I. How many people will take one look at us and think "God I hope we're not near them.... [IMG]Anyway, they have the cutest plastic reusable swim diapers that I used for my older daugther and they are great and come in all colors/designs. Just a thought!
