This might be a crazy question but how do you all keep your bath toys from mildew? We have a lot of the little ducks that squeeze water out but they always end up with mildew after awhile. Really just about anything you put in the tub ends up this way. How do you stay above the mildew and keep the toys clean?

I never found a way, and that just grosses me out, so I threw them out when they got to that point.

I've run mine through the dishwasher on the top rack. I also make sure to put them someplace where they can really dry out in between baths.

The toys like the little ducks that have the hole in the bottom I just squeeze out really good each time, and if they get slimy I just throw them out. I also do a cleaning with bleach usually only like once a month to try to keep all the bath toys clean.

I put all the toys in a colander after the bath and they seem to dry out really well that way.

I throw things out after a year or so. I suppose you could fill a bucket with bleach water and then squeeze it through the toys several times, and that would help -- but I don't have the patience for it.

For the other bath toys (not the water-squeezing kind), I run them through the dishwasher occasionally. But for the most part they just dry out between baths. We only do baths 2 or 3x a week -- maybe that helps.

I tossed out all of the squirty toys when they got yucky and never bought more. However, I frequently wash the other bath toys in the top rack of the dishwasher. This seems to work well.
