I'd love some good bath toy recommendations! We have some rubber duckies and a couple of other bath toys, but we need some new ones and their 1st bday is coming up, so I'm thinking about getting some.

Tell me what you/ they love & hate! :)

Ya know, I laughed when I thought about the toys that they kids have in the tub. To be honest, their favorite toys are cups, washcloths, and these little boats that I have.

These are the boats : http://www.lillianvernon.com/catalog/produ...ng%20Boat%20Set

We also have the piano dolphins that they do enjoy playiing with, but not the way they were intended.

Here is a link to those (I did not get them from this site, but I paid this price):

We had those with John. He loved them!

I also really like squirters but I have to throw them away about every 4 months because of mildew. We also love foam ABCS, bath crayons, and we have this Pooh bath toy that we love too.

Up until about 3 or 4 months ago all of these were great (all were purchased at either Target or Wal-Mart):

    *Basketball hoop thing
    *Cookie monster thing
    *Foam letters/numbers
    *Foam vehicles/roads
*Any plastic container (yogurt, sour cream, etc) that would normally get recycled
*Squirt bottles (the squeeze kind, not the trigger kind)

HOWEVER, in the last 3 or 4 months, the boys have become more interested in throwing water OUT of the tub  than they have at playing with anything IN the tub. Bathtime has become rather frustrating as I can rarely get them cleaned while maintaining consistency (throw water out of the tub twice and you're done).

I swore off squirting bath toys at about 10m when I went to empty them after a bath one night and a big glob of BLECH flew out of it, followed by some funked-out water. :bad: That was the end of our squirting toy era (the bottles are fine, IMO, b/c they are dishwasher safe and don't clog).

We have the foam letters/numbers, several squirty toys, the large play boat, large play duckie, several bath books, etc. For us it is key to have lots of things and take out about 1/3 of them each time and rotate the stash, that way they always seem sorta new B)
They also love cups/wash cloths but that gets REAL messy!!!

For the whole second year, their favorite thing to do in the bath was let the water run into their stacking cups, and pour water from one cup to another. The same for buckets, watering cans, etc. -- their bathtime playing was almost exclusively about filling & emptying.

That's probably still their favorite thing, but since turning 2, they've expanded into bath crayons as well. Those are a little hard to use, though (slippery, and require a fair amount of pressure to write with), so probably not suited to younger toddlers.

We have some squirters, but I am more entertained by them than the kids are.

They also got some bathtub musical instruments as a 2nd birthday gift -- they like the flutes, though they're a long way away from understanding that they make different notes depending on how much water is in them. They use the drum mostly as a bucket.

Mine love foam letters, too. Also, they love to pour cups of water over and over again. They also love the faucet running, so I leave it on a slow flow. They love bubbles in the water, too.

Mine love pouring water from cup to cup. We also have a small plastic watering can and they like that too. We have foam letters and 2 Sesame Street motor boats that propel thru the water after being wound.

I know this would appeal mainly to girls, but our favorite bathtub toy was a plastic tea set. We would put one of those color tablets into the tea pot to turn the water a different color, and use shaving cream in the creamer or sugar bowl.

I found that most sandbox toys are great fun in the bathtub.

I also had a problem with the mildew in the squirty toys, but they cleaned up pretty well with a little bleach water. I used to clean the sturdier bath toys in the dishwasher.

I get some little plastic toys from time to time at the 99 cent store. That keeps them busy enough. Their current favorite "toy" is a washcloth and a small cup. Keeps them busy for a good 45 min!!!

Foam soap. It's sort of like shaving cream but less irritating to their skin. I would turn them to face the wall and put some on the wall. They liked to draw in it. It smells good, they get clean and have fun. Win, win.
Plastic cups. As they outgrew the nesting cups, for nesting, we used them in the tub. It's all about scooping and dumping.
Plastic fish, whales, sharks, crabs, etc... Easy to find this time of year as little pool toys are coming out.
