My 2 go in together and because i didnt buy bath seats (my own fault for not thinking about it) we have to hold them to keep them from going under as they like to wriggle and try and stand up all the time. I know this isnt very comfortable for me so it must be uncomfortable for them but i am reluctant to get seats for them now as they will grow out of them in a couple of months. So my question is can your 14 monthers sit unaided in the bath? x

Mine were from about 10 months old. I just didn't use a whole lot of water. Also, I read somewhere that it is more dangerous to keep making them sit, so if they stood, I let them. We never used seats, because they wouldn't work in our textured tub.

I just don't trust my two, unaided. They are much better off, I think, in bath seats. If you have a baby thrift store in your area, they always seem to be on sale for $5-10 at most. Maybe that's a good solution. That, or a really good bathmat, but again, I wouldn't trust my two. They'd be flip-flopping all over the place!

Mine are 12 months and we just got rid of the bath seats. They can sit in the bath unaided and they have a blast together! We put a very small amount of water in the tub when they take a bath. We barely put two inches or so - it covers about halfway up their legs. It's enough for me to get them clean and for them to play, but not enough for them to go under.

I think my girls were around 13 months when we ditched the bath ring and let them sit in the tub (on a mat, of course). I usually have to do bathtime alone and we have had a few "incidents" (standing up and falling) but it's gotten much better.

We also have never used bath seats or anything. We just don't put much water in, so there's no way they could really go under and not be able to recover on their own. It' snot enough water for them to get bouyant in. (Although obviously I always stay right there because I know accidents can happen very quickly!) Also we use a non-slip mat, which obviously helps to keep them from slipping around so much and gives them more stability.

I think we started using the big tub at around 9 months or so and we used maybe 1-1.5" of water. This was totally plenty to get them clean and they could also splash around and play. Mine went through a brief phase at around 15 months or so where they wanted to stand up, but we just worked with them for about a week or two and they learned that they had to sit down to stay in the tub. Now we use maybe 4" of water, so even when they lie all the way back (which they love doing and is how we rinse their hair) it still doesn't cover their face/eyes/nose/mouth.

Mine were about 10 or 11 months. When I got rid of the bath seats, I bought a soft foamy bath mat for them to sit on. I gave them traction and protected their heineys from hurting. I think I bought it at toys r us.

DITTO! Mine have been taking bath in the big tub since 9 months with no seats. We can't use mats either because of our textured tub. I just sit by the tub so I can grab one if needed. Mine love the tub and love to roam around in it.

We have been taking a bath, without bath rings, in the large tub since about 11 mos. old. It took awhile for them to understand the "No Standing" rule. But once they got it, we were fine. Be consistent. Use a non-slip mat. And keep the water level lower for awhile.

What she said. :) Although now I do use more water, because they have mostly learned not to stand up (and also because Sarah finds it entertaining to "float" a bit on her back). We have the extra-long non-slip mat from One Step Ahead.

We used the infant tub until about 10 months, and for awhile after that, DH and I had to bathe them together so each of us could keep a hand on each kid pretty much at all times. It wasn't until about 13 months that I felt comfortable bathing them on my own.

Teaching them not to stand up was another "tough love" situation for us. We have a rule that if you stand up, your bath is over. (Got this from another TSer. ;) ) There was a lot of screaming due to prematurely-ended baths, but it only took a few times before they learned. Now I generally give them 1-2 warnings, because they do know the rule (sometimes they just "forget"), but when I was first trying to teach them, I was firm about it.

I'd say mine were sitting unassisted in the bath (together) since 9-10 months...we have the water maybe 4-5 inches deep, maybe your water is too deep? I also have a non-slip mat on the floor of the tub. I bought it at BRU.

I have been bathing them together, on my own, with no bath rings since about 8 or 9 months. We got bath rings and tried them once (I hated them). As others have mentioned, I just used a low water level when they were smaller.

I put in a pretty good amount of water now. Nicky likes to "swim" in the tub.

I'm also not a stickler for sitting down. I don't let them run around the tub, but if they are just trying to get a toy or get around each other I don't make a big deal, I just say 'sit down, please'. They are much better about staying seated now than they were 4 months ago.

I only use the bath ring for DD... DS sits great but DD leans so far forward, it looks like she is about to face-plant. We make sure they stay seated and not stand or wander. Lots of bath toys keep them occupied.

mine have been sitting up in the big bath since 11 months or so. it was just so much easier to do it in the tub. dh however helps me with every bath night so it helps to have a one on one situation. our tub is textured with no slip grip but if i had to do bath time by myself, i would deffinately put a lot less water than we currently do. we started out with the water just barely covering their legs and now it's up to the middle of their belly but as i said we each kind of have one so it's ok. we have taught the girls no standing in the tub. they don't tend to move around too much because we have a huge amount of those foam letters and numbers floating with them in the water and some plastic cups so that keeps them entertained and in place.

We have bathed all 3 together and the twins have been doing just fine without a bath seat(never used one for any of the boys). They have been sitting unassisted since 9-10 months. They do stand but they are good at holding on to the edge. One of us is always right there. They each have "gone under" once but I think they learned from that because it has been months since that happened.
