Bath seats

The boys have just about outgrown the kitchen sink, not to mention the tidal waves of water that are sent everywhere due to a love of splashing. I really want to start doing baths in the bathtub, but I am curious to know what the consensus is on bath seats? Are they worth it? It would be great to give them a bath at the same time, so in one way, the seats would be great. They sit up fine, so I just wonder if I even need the bath seats.

    Opinions, suggestions, experiences, whatever.

BTW - Grease 2 is on Bravo right now...it's a horrible movie, but I love it. I'll be singing "Cool Rider" to the boys all day tomorrow! :D

I asked this same question a few weeks ago, and the responses were mixed. i decided just to wait a little longer and get a non slip mat for the babies to sit on when they can sit up. I still prefer to bathe them in the sink, yes water gets everywhere but at least i am not bending over a tub, i figure that will come soon enough.

We really liked ours; but we'd used it as a baby bath first. Then it converted to the kind that hooks to the side of the tub. We really only used that feature for a couple weeks till the girls could sit up well enough, so if youhaven't had one up to now, I'd pass.

I never used them. I bought the foam teddy bears that you lie the babies on in the newborn tub and put them on the floor of the tub for my girls to sit on so they wouldn't slide so much. I only used those for about a month until they got used to the big tub. You can definitely bathe them at the same time.

Mine started sitting up at 6 months, by 7/8 months we were bathing them together every time. As long as you are there with them the whole time I think there is no need for bath seats.

We didn't use bath seats at all. Mainly because I am too cheap to spend $60+ on something that is not necessary and would only have gotten a month or so use. We have a non-slip mat on the bottom of the tub so I just layed them on that before they were able to sit well unassisted but too big for the kitchen sink. I only filled the tub with 2-3 inches of water incase they decided to flip over their head would still be above water. I never had any problems with bathing the babies together all by myself without the seats. Before they got big enough to climb out of the tub I would just put them both in the tub, wash, rinse and then drain the water. I would dry one baby and run them to their crib and then come back for the other (the tub was empty so no chance of drowning). Now I need an extra set of hands for getting them out of the tub since if I turn my back for half a second they try to climb out head first!

OMG!!! I just had to say that I watched this last night and was so excited I saw it from beginning to end. I hated the first one and never liked musicals but I love this one (weird, I know). I love Michelle Pfiffer and love when she sings COOL Rider. That guy...what was his name? He sung horribly...LOL!!!!

I think his name is Maxwell Caulfield, or something like that. But he's always Michael to me!!! Yeah, not the best singer, especially in the Biker Heaven song. It is too cheesy!!!

Thanks for the suggestions. I think I'm going to skip the bath seats. DH is actually home from work tomorrow, so we'll do a trial run in the bathtub while he's here to help. I'm nervous about putting them both in the tub at the same time. I don't know why...

I have never washed my kids anywhere but their big tub. I used the bath bear sponge and now that they can sit up i just bought a mat that they can sit on and not slip. Grandma and grandpa bought them the duckie that sits in the tub but DD is scared of it. It is cute and fun and easy for me to use with Beau but she prefers the tub. I have a seat and hate it! good luck!

My boys are 18 months and I dont know what I would do without the bath seats. I do baths every night and almost each night I do them by myself. I think it makes washing their hair really easy too because when they look up, I dont have to worry about them slipping back at all.

I actually am out of town now and last night had to give baths solo and I felt it was way more difficult. I guess my boys are either not used to it or are not as stable as most kids!

I also watched Grease 2 last night!

I wondered the same thing ... I bought the inflateable duck tub (at Target ... by Munchkins) because it was only $10 and thought if I liked it I would buy another one and put them both in the tub together ... I liked it OK but once I knew how big it was ... we can't fit two ducks in one of our tubs. Both babies fit in one duck tub but it was a squeeze and they didn't have any room to play in there.

We are also in the transitional point where they are sitting ... but not well enough for me to feel comfortable bathing them at the same time. I think I will keep using the infant tub or put one in the duck tub at least for a while ... maybe I will try putting the duck and the infant tub in the big tub ... that way I could bathe them together ... but only have one that is sort-of "precarious" ... =)

    Good luck!

we went from the kitchen sink to sitting up and crawling around the big tub. They would never sit still on any sort of seat in a bathtub anyway---so I'd spend the $ on some fun bath toys instead!

Ours are still in there bath seats, we have the ones from Safety 1st that hook over the side of the tub.
we love them and so do the babies.
till them are climbing out, they are loving them.

I just bought one last week and am glad I did. I have one that is WILD in the tub and there is no way I could handle both of them alone in the tub. This way I can alternate bath nights and even get my 3 year old in there with them some nights and the girls are contained and safe! Or I can do one in the seat and one sitting in the tub (and big brother no where near the tub!!!)
