So my DS is already starting to outgrow his baby bathtub, DD fits fine, but is a splasher so by the time I am done with bathtime the kitchen counter, the floor, and my shirt are all wet. I am thinking about transitioning to the big tub and wondered if those bath seats you can buy are worth it, or if I'm better of just dealing with situation until they are old enough to sit up well on your own.

    Any thoughts??

why not put your baby bath tub inside the big tub so her shplashing is more contained. i don't think i'd move out of the baby tub until she sits up well.

I'm not sure of bath seats b/c they scare me.... but we use one of the inflatable duck tubs that go in the big tub- LOVE LOVE LOVE it! They can sit on their own fairly well, but if they take a tumble, they can't really hurt themselves (of course I'm sitting right there) and I don't feel like I have to be bending over them the whole time!

ETA- and they're cheap too! I think mine was $10 at Target! ;-)

My boys are 18 months and still sit in the bath seats. I do baths by myself every night so they have been great. Below is a picture from when they are 11 months in their seats. I have two different ones. We only have one bathroom so I like that the little blue one I have comes out easily and then we always leave the bigger white one in (that is the one you find at BRU).

I put the baby tub inside the big tub and then when they outgrew the baby tub, and were able to sit, that is when we moved to the bath seats.

I pushed it as long as humanly possible with my kids in the infant baths. We have double sinks in the bathroom, and the infant tub fit right between them, so it was perfect for me to stand and have running water and still be in the bathroom. The shift to the seats was hard ON MY BACK! ugh! But it is fun to bathe them together ... and so much quicker to do them at the same time then one after the other. Mine sit well, but I would be SO nervous to be them in the tub unassisted so I needed to use the seats. Now I'm getting used to them, and the kids love playing in the bath. Here's a pic of mine.

I don't know why they weren't facing each other in this pic. Usually they are!

Tristan used his bath seat all the time. Until he could crawl out by himself. Just make sure you get one that suctions to the bath floor. Even with the suckers, he fell over a couple times. You still need to be right there just in case something happens. I did buy mine used on E-bay, but we loved it!!

We have a bath seat and we used it once and did not like it. If they can sit up by themselves, I think the bath seats are pointless. It made giving a bath a lot harder.

After my guys outgrew their tubs I started bathing them in the sink. When they outgrew that I started putting them in the tub. They could sit fine so I just ran a little bit of water in the tub.

since they outgrew their babytub (which I put in the big tub) - i have been bathing them together in our big tub - sans seats.I think this has been since about 11 months old.

I did get an extra long non slip mat from onestep ahead:

they crawl around (supervised of course) but don't slip.

good luck with whatever you decide

We got a very cool bath pillow and I use those in the tub. They can lay down, kick and stay safe. Now that they sit so well. I still use them as padding and they still love them.

I have two of these and use them to bath them both at the same time.. But if your baby is not fitting in the baby tub then he will not fit in the pillow. My DS is looking VERY uncomphy on this pillow. and his head comes way over on the baby tub..

We just put their heads on them, and let the rest of them soak in the water.

I loved my inflatable duck tub after the twins learned how to sit up. Before that, I just put the baby tub in the big bathtub to contain the splashing. Until they learned to sit well, the baby tub provided the support they needed.

    We have one of these.

It helps me to contain one so I can get the other in and out easier. However, I'm always right there regardless. Lucas however is starting to figure out how to get out of it. But...I do love the seat. Makes washing the bottom half a little hard (you have to pick them up out of the seat and wash their bottoms and legs and then put them back down) but it's great for letting them sit up and play without me worrying about banging heads on the side of the tub. We also use a suction mat on the floor of the tub to keep who ever is not in the seat from sliding around.
