Bath seats...

Discussion in 'The First Year' started by mummy.of.twins, Apr 11, 2007.

In the hospital when bathing the twins we didn’t use bath seats, we held them with out hands.

At home I don’t have a nurse to help me with them and my man is at work in the mornings so I have no choice but to use bath seats.

I am so terrified of them, they have done fine with the one bath they have had at home but I cant bring myself to using them again. if one slips down and i have to help her then the other slips then i wouldnt know what to do.

Is there any other method of bathing anyone has used?

The other way I can think of is bathing them separately?

here is Zahlia in her seat.

I would definately not put them both in at the same time...that would be scary. I had everything set up where I would bathe them one right after the other.

  2. thank god im not alone, i dont think im going to bathe them both at the same time again.

what did you do with the other twin while you were bathing the other?

I put the one I was not bathing on a blanket on the floor.

I just recently started bathing my two together. They are small and still fit in the sink until a few months ago....it was easier on my back. :)

We always bathed ours separately in the bath seat until they were big enough to go in the bathtub. I probably only did it by myself a hanful of times. DH always bathed them. If I did do it by myself, I'd bring one of the bouncy seats into the kitchen and put one in there on the floor next to me, while I bathed the other one, then switch them. You could also put one in the swing if they like that.

Your braver than I was. When mine were that new, there's no way I would have attempted it on my own. Way to go!!

I wouldn't even try to attempt to wash them at the same time at that age. Newborns are notoriously floppy. I didn't usually give them a bath anyway until their umbilical stumps fell out. Usually ours fell out at 7 days and were still somewhat red for a few days longer.

I have to say that your dd is beautiful, I've never seen a 29 weeker look that good. Usually they are so red and wrinkly still since most babies that age still don't have any fat deposits under their skin.

I probably won't bath ours together until they can sit up in a bath ring very steadily. I bought a sponge seat at Target for $5 and put that in the kitchen sink. It helps keep them steady (plus I don't have to bend over) and gives me a free hand to get some soap (because I really don't feel safe holding them with only one hand in a slippery sink). The only thing is you have to drain it and push the water out afterward (and I microwave mine while it is still damp to kill germs). Just put the other baby in a swing or pack and play or something. It only takes 5 minutes to bathe them, so they won't get too lonely.

We used the bathroom sink until they were too big. Saves your back! Just lay one on a blanket next to you or in a bouncy chair while you wash the other. I will sometimes put them both in the bath in the rings together now if DH isn't around (he does bath time - I do dressing/bed) and empty the tub before I take them out, so one just sits there in the empty until I've dried the first one.

I bathe mine one at a time for that reason. I can see why you're scared!

Ok, I am confused. Why do you think you would need bath seats at 6 days old? Those are for babies that can sit up. I think you mean bath tubs, you can buy one that is small that you can fill and use on your table.

I can't believe they let you bathe them in the hospital. I was not allowed to bathe mine once and I am a second time mom. Amazing!

You sure do have amazing babies. At least 2 baths before a week old! Aren't you concerned about bathing them with their umbilical stump? I have 4 kids and have always been told to nto bath them until it falls off and it takes about 10 days for that. (although it looks like your baby's has already fallen off in under a week! Really unprecedented babies!! :icon_eek:

WOW! Your little ones were born at great weights for 11 weeks early. Mine were about the same size as yours and they were only 5 weeks early.

I agree with the others and would not bathe them in the bathtub yet. We just started bathing ours in the tub at 9 months. You should invest in a baby tub and bathe them separately. Good luck with your little ones.

I would always bathe them at seperate times. One then the other. Still do. I would lay a towel on the bottom of the tub and just a little bit of shallow water.....lay them on the towel and scrub them up.....always would work better for us than the bath tub in the kitchen sink.

We use the baby bath tubs in the kitchen sink. I do one while DH has the other and when I'm done he'll bathe her. Now that they are bigger, I can do one and have the other sit in her high chair, bumbo or rocker. I've only bathed them together in the tub, in their bath seats (different from the one you have pictured) once, and it made me nervous. I'll wait till they're a little bigger to try that again. One at a time is the best and easiest.

I guess things have changed, I had 2 nurses come in and give me a tutorial on how to bathe them properly.

They have had 2 baths since birth and I didnt think i had a reason to be concerned if in hospital i was given a lesson on how to bathe?
